Re: Garden 2022
how to test your soil for acidity or alkalinity.
https://lifehacker.com/quickly-test-if-your-soil-is-acidic-or-alkaline-with-vi-5994171
add baking soda if it fizzes it is acidic.
add vinegar if it fizzes it is alkaline.
nothing? it's neutral.
that's after you add the water and make it mud first.

@HawkTheSlayer...since i KNOW you plant in the grass. Tell me if i'm okay with this. Ran out of room and had to plant cucumber plants in an old garden that has grown up for past few years. It's restin'. Dug a hole, pushed aside the grass clumps. Dug rich soil out of my woods and then put it in the hole, planted the cukes. Tomorrow i'll put black plastic around each one OR i'll mulch it heavy if i can get a load here. Do you think this will be okay?

I made some elevated wicking beds.
They work well for me.

Re: Garden 2022
FInally identified the little teensy bird in the winter birdhouse i hung on the porch cause the winter was soooo bitter, they come in on the porch and get in my wreaths....so i left some artificial hanging plants and 1 birdhouse. The birdhouse was taken over by Black capped chickadees who are hard at work feeding their young. One little one stuck his head up in the opening watching for mama or daddy with the next bug. the parents hit the sweet gum trees at the edge of my property and then head straight back to the box. The planter has what appear to be house finches. COULD be a sparrow i don't know....little brown bird with red on it. house finch
Tiny little spastic things with a bouncy flight.
This is the house finch
Bigger than the chickadee...substantially even though it is still a small bird.
they're living side by side...not bothering each other. The chickadee will come into the box and ignore us when we're outside or on the porch. The finch will not come in but will sit on the edge of the roof waiting for us to leave.

Re: Garden 2022
Picked these by the shop this morning. They are Yuge! LOL
I Highly recommend the Goliath hybrids. The ones I have planted her by the deck ramp are even larger and have 30-40 of these large tomatoes per plant. That's not counting the little ones on top.
The Creoles and Celebrities look good too but not as many and very few approach this size.

Re: Garden 2022
Got a whole bunch of these little sweetnesses going on.
I can't wait till I can put on my blackface.
I glad I chose watermelons over pumpkins! Lol
No offense @vege57 . Lol
These are supposed to be the premiere , sweetest melon on the market with a 15-25 pound average. Crimson Sweets, or something like dat.
When I was a kid , we growed some to 65 lbs out in the field with ease. And no care. Lol . Let the weather dictate .
But it's been at least 45 years since I tried to grow melons. But I can grow stuff, and better stuff , in the most unconventional manner!
