Re: Garden 2022
Well that's pretty. I'm glad i bought watermelon and cantaloupe and MORE cukes/squash yesterday. IT is so hot here. I'll plant them late this afternoon and then shade them tomorrow.
Hawk> I put forrest leaves around my taters. just to make it pretty and hold in moisture. You think that's okay? Can't wait to get the melons in. Looks like your grass is all the way up the vine..right?

Re: Garden 2022
My SnL got real excited when i planted in the 'middle earth' between our houses. My lot goes up within 8 feet of his driveway so i can do anything i want legally. LOLOL but i dont' want to make my neighbors mad at me (family). He was telling me about how he saw something about how some people are planting in Louziana? Do you two know each other???? I said, I beat you to this. 'Course, none of them are helping me but they'll be ready to eat it you can be sure. Here in Virginia we just started the planting. My tomatoes are no where near at the size your's are nor producing. They're doing fine though since we got a late start. 5/15/22 was our plant date.

I think so with the moisture. You know what works there.Calypso Jones wrote:Well that's pretty. I'm glad i bought watermelon and cantaloupe and MORE cukes/squash yesterday. IT is so hot here. I'll plant them late this afternoon and then shade them tomorrow.

We're fortunate. We get to make 2 gardens a year here. A spring and fall.
Plant early if you're going to try to make 2. March and mid August to finish out in mid november. Taters need an Average temp of 70 degrees for max production . But I know I have lots of taters in those tubs! Even with too hot weather. Well , summer come a month early here, our first 90 degree day usually doesn't come until June 9th. But we had 3 days of 90s before May 8th. And most every day since! And little rain.
Besides that. The best growing year I ever had. Early is the key for tomatoes.

I doubt I can help you. I've been planting stuff in the grass for 30 years. And I have a BS in Ag-Business! When i lived in town and had a small back yard , I had 20, metal , T-post , I would just tie the growth to in my posts whatever I chose to grow.Calypso Jones wrote:My SnL got real excited when i planted in the 'middle earth' between our houses. I could be well off pushing chemicals for the last 40 years, but I despise them! That was the premiere job in those days. And still is . This is what my dick head neighbor does for a living now that he moved in with the Eastern Star Priestess.
I despise glyphosate! And that ain't shit. Its 's just round-up. You people ever get a hold of what's in Crossbow , 2-4-DB , or other stuff you won't believe it . It's very corrosive and every cattleman that that ever sprayed his fence line with it, cut 10 years out of his wire life.
The cattleman are crying now at having to replace fencing at 20 times the price at one-fitfth the gauge , chinese, wire that will not last 5 years.
Hey , he who too lazy to cut the little tree on his fence line deserve to be fucked.
Trouble is, the cows get out and eat up the neighbors property , like young pecan trees and $50 a piece.
Such is the unhidden reality of 30-40 years ago , when chemicals were promoted heavily, over mechanical culitivation.
You know, just.....

I just got about 30 minutes of wind... right after i laid down leaf mulch around my potato plants today. LOL so i ran down grabbed the hose and wet the leaves down to keep them from blowing so much. Looks good. Got a little rain..we needed it. Hope we get some more tonite. cooled off wonderfully. Went from high 80s to low 70s. awesome.

@HawkTheSlayer, WOW, quite the boatload. But I must ask; why do you pick them so early? So the plants produce more, or is there some other reason?
