I have a small vertical garden. Grubs kept destroying my herbs so now I have it planted out with flowers.

I should have said caterpillars not grubs and yes I have tried everything natural. I won't ever use chemical sprays.
They were Loopers actually and no matter how much I searched for them daily some always escaped me. I made garlic soap and oil sprays to no avail. They kept ruining my basil, mint and parsley so I gave up. Oh well. The replacement flowers are nice lol.

I have found flowers are good to grow.
So do the bees and butterflies.

Re: The Most Ingenious Vertical Garden Ideas For Small Spaces
At my age, I had to give up full scale gardening. Couldn't keep up the effort to do 2500 square feet.
So, now I Square Foot garden. I have a 4' X 8' space, bordered with cinder blocks. I used 8 inch common, but any blocks will due. Filled with Compost, manure and topsoil. Perlite keeps it from packing.
I use gift wrap ribbon to lay out 32 one foot squares. On the southernmost side, I plant corn. When the corn is about a foot high, I plant a climbing bean seed at the base of each stalk. I train the beans to climb the stalk.
In front of that, I plant small determinate tomatoes. Squashes next, and finish with onions, carrots and garlic. I fill the holes in the blocks with garden soil and grow pest repelling flowers and herbs.
I grow three crops a year. That was a layout of my summer crops. In early spring, and late summer, I plant cold weather plants like sugar snap peas, greens and brassicas.
We eat well, and I usually have a bit of surplus to give to an old man we take care of.
On my back deck I have two planters. One is for Strawberries and one is for eggplant(Japanese).
Works great.
