Re: Spring Garden
Got our taters planted. Just 3 rows of 7. My husband started out at noon, then I went out to help w/the actual planting. (Around 2 or 3:00.???) Hate to say it, folks, but I couldn't do it. I was sitting on my heels planting, then I couldn't get up. Not even w/Mr. 2 holding my hands. Finally got the 3 gal. bucket, and pushed myself up w/that. Whew! However, I was able to cover the taters, once they were set in the holes.
Not to worry. We'll get 'er done. Can you even imagine there not being a garden at the K residence?! Thaz juz crazy talk.
[So as not to be a Debbie Downer, I assure you that I am going to get fixed. Going in for a sonogram on the legs next week. No reason for me not to be able to walk, w/the amount of exercise I've been doing.
Mr. 2's improving, too. :thumbsup2: ]

Re: Spring Garden
Outside all day...taking inventory on how the garden did over the winter, checking grape arbor, blackberries, onions...coming along fine. 81degrees now. If i plant above ground plants now i guarantee there will be a frost.
had some volunteer zinnias show up in the crack at the garage door so i watered them and gently pulled them out and put them in a bed. Watered good. I may have to cover...probably but i have a jump so far on planting season. you know what. this is a mistake. If i wait till july i can have beautiful zinnias into the fall.
as a side note...i can make a hell of a good dirty martini.

Well, after all our hard work, I say we get together and bask in our efforts.Calypso Jones wrote:Outside all day...taking inventory on how the garden did over the winter, checking grape arbor, blackberries, onions...coming along fine. 81degrees now. FWIW, Mr. 2 planted the onions and garlic while I ran errands yesterday. Did a lot of digging, too. More of that, today. When I got done w/the house tasks, I sprayed glyphosate along the fence line, then planted the corn.
We're getting there!

SIX of our onions are up at least FOUR INCHES already. Planted on the 13th. Nubs of garlic, too. (planted same day.) And the repotted 'maters appear to be happy campers.
Bell are looking healthy.
Had to bring those last two inside this afternoon. Got one of those whippersnapper thunderstorms that throw hail and a torrential downpour atcha, then leave.
Bright sun shining. The kind a garden loves.

The extended forecast? What do you plan to grow? To answer your question, I haven't a clue.Calypso Jones wrote:It is remarkablly warm here....warm enough to plant. Dare i do it??

Re: Spring Garden
We usually can't plant till mid May. We're close but in the past, we've seen frost up till the first week in May. That's why i dare not. Nurseries say they won't have tomato plants till the 27th so i really can't plant till at least the 27th. I could put them in the ground at that point, and just watch the weather daily....if it looks suspicious, i could do what hawk does and put a bucket over the plants and then a blanket.

I need to plant some cukes at the shop where they can grow on the trellis.
