One of my sons has a Toyota hybrid and his isn't required to be plugged in   ...   ever. It's a great car too.

It's simple as this to me with American hybrids.

If the alternator can't recharge the batteries on a half tank of gasoline , it's not worth it .

The scenerio:

Start out electric.  Get X amount of miles.
Switch to gasoline . Get X amount of miles and fully recharge batteries.
When batteries are fully charged, switch to electric again.

Then finish with remaining fuel. Leaving a full electric charge for emergencies,  or extended fuel ups.

There's no net loss and petrol powers your renewables .

Can you fathom this brother  @Sprintcyclist ?

Are just run with the  narrative?

Hybrids are very good, they will about 1/2 your gas usage.
Apparently most cars sold have some degree of electrification

https://freebeacon.com/latest-news/reality-check-ford-ceo-struggles-to-charge-ev-during-road-trip/

ford ceo takes a trip in his EV and finds out just how challenging it is. So what they're telling us is that Gov't motors is producing these cars..at our expense mind you...cause the gov't takes our money and gives it to Govt motors.... and they really don't know how they perform in REALITY.

there's a clue in there somewhere.

Yeah, what they DON"T tell you is a) what the actual cost is by the time you buy the car, install charge boxes/electric b) how many miles the batteries last c) what the resale value is and finally, d) what the battery costs to replace it.

People who have children and EV's suffer from what has been coined "mileage/recharge anxiety" because they have anxiety over whether they will make it to the next recharging center in time. Vacations are especially difficult for people. Sometimes the recharging station has either been vandalized and is inoperable, does not work correctly/at all or is otherwise too far for EV's to go from where they are.

The customers always right.

A few days ago we were at a set of lights, 2 cars were in front of us.
Both were EV's.
EV's are very common.

The idea of electric vehicles (or hybrids) is a good one.  We're just not equipped for them yet though.  I prefer the idea of hybrids. It's not a scam it's a potential move forward.

I'm surprisingly seeing Teslas everywhere and they're expensive.

One could not make it from Sydney to Canberra in an electric vehicle. How in the hell would you make it to Perth on electric?
Are you guys ok with paying a price premium for gasoline?

Oh , and beleive me , I know you already do!
But I mean , if you give in to this bullshit you'll be paying more.

I realize it's probably cheaper to fly to Perth from Sydney. Way cheaper.

I had a lot of thoughts I had to delete here.

Did you miss the part where I said we are not ready for EVs yet?   Or that I prefer hybrids?

I have no desire to drive to Canberra or Perth but, thanks to our new leftist moonbat government, petrol/gas here right now is $2.04 per litre!  That's right, per LITRE and since I have to do a lot of driving right now that really pisses me off having to waste all that money just getting from A to B.

My son has a hybrid and he does NOT have to charge it.  Petrol/gas starts it and then the electric motor takes over.  The battery stays charged through regenerative braking and by the internal combustion engine.  He drives hundreds of miles regularly and never has a problem.  It's a great, and very quiet, car and if I wanted to dish out $40,000 for a car I'd certainly buy one.  No charging and it would save me thousands of $$s.

I'm not giving in to any bullshit because there really IS some balanced middle ground between the extremes of "shut down all the power stations and everyone has to drive an electric vehicle" and "OMG they are out to destroy us so don't give in to the scam  hair-fire " ... and that's where I prefer my head to be.

Back in the 1990s some of you probably thought cordless phones and the internet were the work of the devil too.   Trust me, I had a lot of thoughts I had to delete here too!!

Many years ago a guy drove right around Australia in an EV.
Just to show it could be done.

Hybrids are prob the most practical at this stage
