Re: Garden 2022
are you starting the seeds in those little starter planter sets?? OR is it time for you to put it in the ground??
I'm still nursing some succulents back to health that i rescued in Florida. Having some luck.
What are those alternative soil additives the guy was talking about. I looked at the link and didn't see his suggestions.

I CAN gather some cow patties but they take so long to dry.

Straight in the ground. It's 80 degrees right now. Mid 40s-mid 50s at night.Calypso Jones wrote:are you starting the seeds in those little starter planter sets?? OR is it time for you to put it in the ground??

I'll take some string, stakes, and tape measure, and plot it all out. It's about a quarter of an acre. Then I'll go with the shovel and dig a 12 inches hole about 12 inches deep and plant.
I plant everything like this for decades now. Like no-till farming! Lol
No rows, no land breaking(Cept scratch the ground with disks in the fall for mustard and turnips).
I do better than most folks.
Here my goliath matters by the tractor shed. I planted them one month ago today. They have little maters. Real green and healthy.
Prolly the best tomatoes I've ever grown. Buy small, green plants. Not those spindly looking things.

Lol. Forgot to mention, I put the 5 gallon buckets there for size comparison. They are almost that tall. Very bushy for an indeterminate type tomato with no pruning.

I don't need that. My asshole neighbor is so full of shit when he BBQ 's at his house 400 yards away just his being outside is enough to fertilize them

I had to put a few stakes to tie up back when we had da "gros vent"(big wind) otherwise the taller ones would have all gotten beat down and broken .

@HawkTheSlayer:
Don't you just know it? We saw some of those spindly plants at the green house we stopped at today. Definitely not a good start for mater plants. We bought the healthy looking ones. :thumbsup2:Buy small, green plants. Not those spindly looking things.

Yes. Always do that, no matter how small they are.2cent wrote:@HawkTheSlayer:Don't you just know it? We saw some of those spindly plants at the green house we stopped at today. The damn things are a.ready high enough. $2.49 for a 3 pack of small plants.
I always get a kick out of folks who buy the large, single plants in the 4 or 5 inch cups and pay 599 or 699 for them and never make anything. Lolol.
Even if they have flowers on them , they will never make anything to amount to poop.

You're right on that. And i found out something the hard way. Do NOT buy bucket tomatoes from Waltermart. They never do good in those buckets.
I'm doing way too much thinking the garden through. I'm gonna do what you do hawk, dig a hole and stick the plant in.
