Re: Garden 2022
This variety ripens quickly after picking. 2 days.2cent wrote: @HawkTheSlayer, WOW, quite the boatload. But I must ask; why do you pick them so early? So the plants produce more, or is there some other reason?
But the main reason for picking them as soon as they start to turn is to prevent cracking from occurring.

Re: Garden 2022
Better quality and I can control the ripening process by watching all of them as the ripen. I move the ripest ones to the front of the cookie sheet and use those first. Then I move the next ripen ones into position with the greenest ones in the rear.Calypso Jones wrote:Yeah..what's with the green maters?? are you making fried green tomatoes??
In 2 days they will all be red. Too many pests and creatures here to peck the red ones.

Ooh, I loves fried green tomatoes. I'd cook some up w/dinner tonight, but the biggest ones might be the size of golf balls.Calypso Jones wrote:Yeah..what's with the green maters?? are you making fried green tomatoes??

They aren't really green. I pick them when they first start turning.2cent wrote:2 days? Wow! That's tremendous. Re: Garden 2022
I know I'm going to hell for this . But in the fall, when I was in my 20s one of the last houses on the paved road to the camp before it turned to gravel, then dirt, was a local sports casters camp. He had a big garden there and spent most of his time there although he lived in Baton Rouge.2cent wrote:Ooh, I loves fried green tomatoes. He liked to drink heavily and was a pretty good guy.
One night I left the camp and went to a bar on that particular lake(not the one here) . He was drunk and told me something I didn't like. I just let it slide.
The next week at dusk , me and a podnuh were going to the camp to hunt for the weekend . I pulled in at his garden. No one was there. I picked all his green tomatoes! Man we fried dem tings for over 2 weeks at the camp. Lolol.
