Why is soccer not more popular in the US?
Easy question, Jeffrey Toobin, masterbation champ of journos.
If you want examples of why the US is a great country, look no further than the general overall cleanliness of its sports. Soccer is the most corrupt pro sport on the planet, not a healthy mix in the US. We live in a country that discourages and tries to ban corruption in pro sports. Now close your eyes and imagine how that probably works.

On balance, soccer might be a negative influence on American values.
Too bad. I enjoy it very much. But just watching it acquiesces to very dirty business.
I was once a huge Pele fan. Not so much the more I learned about the game. Not at all now.

soccer started as an american sport when the Miami Injuns were butchering their captives after William Crawford lead them to their demise. there is historical evidence that five executed white prisoners heads were being kicked in a new type game, like youd play quarters at a beer hall.

Soccer is one of the most boring games.
Hence the soccer riots.
In any good sport/game a side can score 100 pts in a game.
Grid Iron, basketball, Union, league, AFL. All good games, all capable if 100 pts in a game.
Soccer, hockey, useless games, cannot score 100 pts

Re: Why is soccer not more popular in the US?
I had kids that played soccer.
They played simply because there was little or no body contact like rugby league where they saw their mates suffer some serious injuries.
Soccer could be made an exciting game if they disposed of red cards and yellow cards and simply gave sin bins for say ten minutes for infractions.
This would create space on the field due to less players.
There would be more goals.
But this would be breaking tradition, which sadly holds many sports
back.
I coached junior soccer teams for years...the kids love it...
Adult soccer, particularly defensive world cup qualifiers is as boring
as bat shit...excepting top tier games....
Give me an under 14s game any day...they knock the ball around
and the skills level is incredible...
Plus their enthusiasm is rather infectious...

I love soccer and both my kids played. My Scottish grandfather called it a game of skill (although he called it football) and said footy was a game for thugs lol.

Re: Why is soccer not more popular in the US?
Forgot to mention a rule change which would open the game right up....
Im surprised that it hasnt been experimented with...
I would like to see a free kick given against a team where
a player passed the ball backwards from one side of half way to the
other side to a team mate....(the free kick to be awarded where the ball
was received....)
This would encourage all players to move forward with the ball
and more through balls would occur.
The holding of possession would not be so boringly important...
Control of the midfield would cease to exist and players would
be forced to be more creative, rather than just back passing
in defence, which kills momentum and the game as a spectacle...
Just a thought from an old retired coach....
