I like to get my money's worth..the Captain is not as frugal as i, he's wasteful in my opinion...but my toothpaste...yes we use different tooth pastes..he likes one brand, i am not so picky. I make sure i get Virtually ALL of the product out of the tube. often i continue to use it for an additional nearly two weeks. THAT is how much product is left in the container if you are not careful.
Don't beat yourself up baby, we will only tax you your first born

Not so bad, but you'd be better off taking her husband along with her. They make a great bbq team.vege57 wrote:2cent wrote:Well why didn't you say that in the first place?! Re: Repurposing Stuff
Good thread.
Our work recycles a lot of stuff. They have areas for used polystyrene boxes, 'eskies' in Australian.
Some are large, heavy duty, medical grade. I bring them home and use them as wicking beds for the veges. They work really well.
I paint them, the insulating and waterproof properties make them ideal.

Re: Repurposing Stuff
It's not girly stuff!
I repurpose stuff all the time.
I prolly have 200 TP rollers in a box. Use them for planting seeds, instead of peat cups. Make 4 cuts on one end, fold them over to interlock , turn rightside up, fill with potting soil, and plant seeds.
I hang plastic, grocery bags on my kitchen drawers for garbage. Just make sure they have no holes, or double them up.
I used to save spent cooking oil. I'd put it in kerosene lanterns. Burns about the same as kerosene but not as clean as today's lamp oil.
Great for burning outside during the night at the camp or on the porch.
Old lawn mower and tractor oil is used as fire starter on large piles of limbs in the field.
All my glasses are pint and quart mason jars!
I have so many from canning. Lol
I catch rainwater for my plants on the deck.
I boil shrimp heads and shells and make stock.

Re: Repurposing Stuff
I wish i had a wood burner. Either stove or oven . Then I'd show you some repurposing. I have one in a school bus behind the house but it's too large. It's Yuge!

Re: Repurposing Stuff
I save the small pieces of pecan shells that fall through the final screening to use in the smoker. Any size will work, though.

Re: Repurposing Stuff
Year's ago in the market, we sold loads of fresh sliced, deli meats.
Well no one wants that last quarter or half pound of product on the end. One by one, I would put them in a bag in the freezer. When i had enough salami(pepper sausage) and bologna ends(and udder stuff like turkey, lunch meat, ham, chopped ham), I would cube it up and make a gumbo and sometimes add some smoked turkey necks.
Man, there ain't nothing like a poor man's, pepper sausage and bologna gumbo!
