Thanks for the update, Hawk. Hope you got some sleep, and all is well this a.m.HawkTheSlayer wrote:Thank you, @2cent. Im ok.2cent wrote:@HawkTheSlayer, our TV weather was worrying over Weazie getting some bad stuff - tornadoes.
You okay?
It was pretty bad with the last line of storms about an hour ago. 1 am was scary. . Hesvy rain, wind, and non stop lightning for an hour.
One more line of storms to come through. Then, some cooler weather.
I can see the lightning as the last line approaches and hear thunder, but it is still a ways off.
Im going to try to go back to sleep now. But i doubt i will be able to.

Nondescript day. Overcast, flurries all day...the kind of winter day I despise.
Coldish...about 22 F. Much colder than is normal, this time of year.
Moar to come.

My porch faces mostly east. To the north is a large squall that will arrive in a few moments. East and south the sky is an orangish yellow. The sun will arrive in about 15 minutes. Overhead is a cloud with a bit of imagination looks like the breasts of a woman bending over. I have a photo but have been unable to figure out how to post them. The rain has arrived. Guess I won't cut grass this AM

I wake up this morning, and there's eight inches of fresh snow.
Truly January weather. Here or elsewhere in North America...I never saw a late fall like this one. Even in the 1970s, with that Global Cooling...closest I can think of, was November of 1976.
I was a kid out of school, working for a small village DPW in southwestern New York State. It had been a cold fall, but nothing out of the ordinary, other than a few days where the fall rains turned to melting snow (too warm to stick). But, Thanksgiving rolled around...I remember that day, because we had a park area we were cleaning up, huge quantity of leaves. We got them piled up, and the "packyderm" (our leaf truck, with a suction snorkel) had gotten three-quarters of them, but not the rest. But we quit for the evening...typical November day, overcast, crisp air, sun down a little after 5, which was quitting time.
Thanksgiving, a snowstorm blew in. About twelve inches. It didn't end, either...it just kept coming. We were on an inland lake, which normally froze over, about January 1. Some winters, never.
This time, with all the snow coming in and chilling the water, it froze in the first week of December. We had municipal docks to manage, on the public waterfront (resort town) and they were still out, in the new ice. The guys who were to bring them in...normally a little earlier, but we all were busy...they had to don wet suits to go out and break free the supports from the ice.
That was then. This is now. We saw Buffalo, two weeks ago. This early, that's unheard of.
Now we get moar. This is really going to be one for the history books.
