i see no benefit of having any of those places around. just because your place is HQed in one of them doesnt mean its sound financialy. rather only allows you better access to suckers.

I've seen spanking, brand new mail trucks in larger, surrounding towns with populations around 12,000, but I doubt we'll ever see any - no matter what age - in this town.
Mail carriers might be rotating the routes they deliver to in some areas - not the first time I've heard this - but I think they're still running all routes every day - except Sun. & holidays - here.
May be by district. Maybe a trial thing, before they announce it and make it across-the-system.
There have been no new mail trucks since 1995 - when Ford ran off a set of prototype flex-fuel vehicles. Which the Postal Service has since rejected - low quality.
The Grumman-Chevrolet vans which are the bulk of their fleet, finished their production run in 1993. Grumman, makers of the aluminum bodies and chassis...Grumman is gone, out of the business. I think there's still some Grumman companies working, but no more truck bodies. They were once a big maker of trucks and buses.
The Post Office HAS been buying some minivans, to tide over its need for wheels, but they're left-hand drive. We have one that brings the mailman here to service our mail centers.
It's just a stopgap solution, until they get a new universal truck.
That's why it's so obscene that that Alzheimer's patient in the White House gave an Excretive Odor that the PO trucks bought - which were in bid - must be electric. It's JUST NOT GONNA WORK. You can't run those things all day, or even half a day, on a battery. The expense will be four times what a conventional small truck would cost.
But those things don't matter to NPCs and demented DemocRat politicians.

UGH, on that last bit. It's just too stupid to be for real, but there it is.Casey Jones wrote:2cent wrote:

The "new" mail trucks we've been seeing are of the old variety/look. My guess now is that they're paint jobs, not actually new.
*This thread has given me an idea on who to ask what the square mileage is of our entire town/school district. (Calling the school would be awkward.)

Having any of what places around? Post Offices? Voting Polls? ??? And whose, or what kind of "place" would be HQ'd in one of "them?" \jirqoadai wrote:i see no benefit of having any of those places around. just because your place is HQed in one of them doesnt mean its sound financialy. rather only allows you better access to suckers.

Google Maps and Wikipedia should have that information.
I know...Gurgle. Enemy of all people who think for themselves. Well, they sometimes have utility; and this is one of those times. Just enter it as a question: How many square miles is Shithouse Falls Independent School District?
Or, How many Square Miles is Podunk Township?
Here's what I got, for my area:
