Oh, the carriers go out every day; but they work alternate routes. This area Day 1; the other area Day 2.
Now, it may be that with rural boxes, it would be just too obvious not to have the mail wagons putt-putting up every day. That may be the case.
The Postal Service has never announced this - I learned it from a mail-carrier poster on another board.

JFTR, rural mail carriers use their personal vehicles, not USPS mail trucks, so them not being on the road wouldn't be very tell-tale.Casey Jones wrote:Oh, the carriers go out every day; but they work alternate routes. This area Day 1; the other area Day 2.

Thing is, exceptionally few people can see their mailboxes from their homes, so how would folks know if they ran every day or not?
There is this, though - Don'tcha think too many people w/outgoing mail would be griping up a storm, if no one explained why their mail isn't being picked up.

Not all of them use personal cars - although more of them are, as more of those 1988-vintage Grumman aluminum wagons fail beyond repair. Out here, where growth is being pushed beyond the city limits...postal trucks are used to service the new apartment houses and growing mobile-home parks.
In other areas, there's personal cars. Most of them have roof signs, U.S. Mail. A needed warning sign, since they're trying to drive a left-hand-drive vehicle sitting in the right seat. Only Jeep made a right-hand-drive rig for sale for rural carriers - tradition, back when AMC/Jeep owned AM General, the government contract division, and made postal jeeps.
That's gone now. And now, the few 1990s-era Jeeps that are RHD, sell for mucho dinero - even wrecked or rusted out. A few Japanese Domestic Market cars appear, too - Toyota sedans or kei trucks (tiny) and they get snapped up, too.

Our town's P.O. has zero mail trucks. Every single mail carrier that works out of our post office is using his personal vehicle. What having roof signs on them has to do w/anything, I'm unsure. A guy we know installed a right-hand drive in his vehicle, but that was on him.Casey Jones wrote:2cent wrote:JFTR, rural mail carriers use their personal vehicles, not USPS mail trucks, so them not being on the road wouldn't be very tell-tale.Casey Jones wrote:Oh, the carriers go out every day; but they work alternate routes. I've seen spanking, brand new mail trucks in larger, surrounding towns with populations around 12,000, but I doubt we'll ever see any - no matter what age - in this town.
Mail carriers might be rotating the routes they deliver to in some areas - not the first time I've heard this - but I think they're still running all routes every day - except Sun. & holidays - here.
