Did they even HAVE the "Forever" stamps back ten years ago?
I dunno. I quit going Postal when I got out of the Navy. Denver, and then traveling with Sperry Rail, and then in Cleveland and Buffalo...I paid my bills in person. Used to be the grocery store...Quality Markets, or Topps, would take utility-bill payments. Just take the phone, gas and electric bills down to the Customer Service window, and pay up.
Quicker than writing a check and then going to a mailbox - never trusted pickup out of my box.
Geez. Back in 1978, when the price of stamps went up to 17 cents and the Post Orifice didn't HAVE the correct stamps, I engaged in one of my first acts of civic involvement. I wrote my Congressman, Stanley Lundine, and suggested that the Postal Service just print up "First Class Postage" stamps and sell them for what price they wanted to charge for postage.
I got a nice form letter back from a staffer, and that was the end of it. Not-Invented-Here, so it was no good.
And here we are, forty-odd years later, and they did it - except with a really stupid name, like "Forever Stamps."
Stanley Lundine is long, long gone (but still alive; amazingly, he didn't make his seat a lifetime post) - but maybe, possibly, I had a little something to do with it

you quit going postal when you left the US Navy? how often were you going postal? and exactly how mad must you get in order to go postal in the first place? ( note to Hawk: we need to force this guy to watch porn films of barbara streisan and then turn him loose in a mall in shitcago )Casey Jones wrote:HawkTheSlayer wrote:I pay all my bills online. :thumbsup2:jirqoadai wrote:well, i waited. get back to me if you find anyone. Re: USPS Mail Delivery Will Get Significantly Slower Starting Today
I just saw this and its explaining what happened to me this week . Ive been getting a small early pension for 10 - 15 yrs now ( pays the water bill) and it always without exception came on the last day of the month . Last week it didn't show up so I called the trust co and they said to give it a few days before they reissued a new one . It came 8 days later than usual and no one wanted to say the reason .
I'm sending out my Christmas cards this weekend .
