Re: Going Simple
I didn't watch the vid yet but i remember as long time ago i made a simple crust with no yeast and never let it rise. Just flour, oil, and water. But ive been using the yeast and rise for a long time now, and the crust is so light and fluffy.Red Lily wrote:HawkTheSlayer wrote:I didn't have any pizza crusts or canned, refrigerated pizza dough. And it was too late at 6pm to make dough from scratch and let it rise 3 hours. So i made pizza with sliced bread. It was very good and pulled apart easily. No pizza cutter needed.
The secret is to lay the bread out and generously butter each slice. Then flip the slices over and build your pizza.
The bottoms will be crispy and golden brown.
I've made this dough several times. 2 ingredients - self raising flour and plain yogurt. I think I've posted it before. Quantities can vary. It's always worked out very well for me and it's fast.

I've never made a pizza dough and let it rise. Simple for me is fast, easy and tasty without any fuss lol.

I was lucky enough to live in a time when school cafeterias actually had good food, nutritious home cooked food...and sometimes we'd get peanut butter sandwiches that were SOOOOOO good. and i'll bet it was honey that was in them. They were awesome. I used to really like a half cup of coolwhip..fat free with a tablespoon of hershey's syrup and a few pecans. My low cal sundae. I must try that again.

We had great home cooked food, too. Homemade pizza, bread, beans and rice with meat, desserts.Calypso Jones wrote:hurricanehook wrote:My two favorite cravings right now. Creamy Natural Skippy peanut butter with raw honey by the spoonful. Frozen sugar free Coolwip by the spoon.

I never forget those peanut butter balls. Lol.
I guess they got a lot of government peanut butter and cereal. They were just balls a little smaller than a golf ball with crushed corn flakes mixed in. I could eat a dozen.

If you had eaten all your food and went back for seconds, the serving ladies would give you all the pnut butter balls you wanted. Lol

Re: Going Simple
In my small elementary school, we only got hot lunches once a week. The lunch women were all mothers, and volunteers. Yeah, in those days people volunteered for such work.
It was reasonably good, although a little heavy on the starch, I now know. We had chili mac a lot. Hamburgers once in a while. Spaghetti as often as chili mac.
It was forgettable but hot. A novelty. Typical lunch was a sandwich.
I have hated cold sandwiches ever since.
I don't remember any sweet treats from that time. Later, in a far bigger school, we all had to buy lunch cards. A week's worth of lunches was $5. Meal ticket was punched to pay for it. No cash in the line. ONE trip through. You wanted more, you went to the school store and bought a bag of chips.

Re: Going Simple
From 1st thru 8th grade our brown bagged lunches stayed in our book bags in the closet on a hook until lunch time. Milk was provided. WHOLE, GRADE A, VITAMIN D MILK! Not that flimsy stuff.
Went to a public h.s., where there was this thing called a cafeteria; a place I rarely visited, and it took me a bit to figure how things worked. Lunches were .60, but I VERY rarely ate any.
There was also a stand of Hostess cupcakes and all that rot. It was actually available for breakfast. And the rest of the day, of course, but I was quite taken aback when I saw it available for breakfast the first time. EEEWWWW. lol
Breakfast for me = 2, 16oz. glasses of Nestles Quik. Then I had 2 more, when I got home. I usually had at least 1 more, before going to bed. But you'll have to take my word for it that I was active enough to be trim, regardless of all the junk I put into my system. Game nights I usually went w/o dinner, so I basically wasn't eating much at all. But I was healthy and fit, so no one much gave my diet a second glance. Now-a-days, I bet my parents would've been called to the mat for child neglect. Or not. I never was, when my son quit eating breakfast. I allowed it, 'cuz I was the same way: Starved by lunchtime, if I ate breakfast. Go w/o breakfast, and I was good to go 'til dinner time.
And why I though y'all needed a page out of my diary, I'm not quite certain, but there you have it. lol
