Protests in Europe.

Doesnt it warm your heart to read about anti government protests.
Hopefully theyll bring out the guillotine tomorrow...or something similar....
"Western sanctions are backfiring, and some Europeans are awakening to how their governments sacrificed their livelihoods for NATO's proxy fight against Russia in Ukraine. What's happening in Prague could spread like wildfire throughout the EU."

If the upcoming winter is severe, heads will roll.

Re: Protests in Europe.
Quite frankly, it's going to be a cold winter for me.
The assholes at the Louisiana Public Service Commission have allowed ENTERGY LOUISIANA and ENTERGY NewOrleans to increase their rates to a total of about 16cents/kWh. No one can pay their bills. $500-600-700 monthly bills are not uncommon.
Electric heat is a big user of electricity. I usually set the thermostat at 65 in the winter but looks like I'll have to lower it to 60 this winter.
Surrounded by oil and gas, and refineries.
And can't afford electricity.

Re: Protests in Europe.
I received a notification on Friday which meant my electricity bill
will go up by about 50% per month...
In other news from Oz...
At the end of September the reduction in petrol (gas) government
excise will end...pushing petrol prices up again...
Lowe RBA Governor will rise interest rates on tuesday by .5%
Time for us all to start protesting methinks....

Comment from the link:
"Folks, the largest steel plant in Europe (ArcerlorMittal) is shutting down.
The collapse of Western Europe is accelerating by the day.
No steel = no industry
No fertilizer = no food (70% of ammonia now shut down)
No natural gas = no electricity (Nord Stream 1 is now 100% offline)
The media, national leaders and oblivious masses are pretending everything's going to be fine. How will that be accomplished with no steel, no fertilizer, no crops, no gas and very little electricity, exactly?"

When i first moved here 4 years ago, I was paying less than 10cents/kWh. Around 9.5 cents total, for electricity and associated fees.
It creeped up to about 12 cents.
But with the latest approved increase and outrageous, hurricane recovery charges, it shot up to 16 cents.
In all, I'm paying 60-70 % higher for electricity.

Re: Protests in Europe.
My rates will be as follows:
Peak usage up from 27.78c per k to 45.8 per k
Off peak usage (nites) up from 15.3 to 25.3
Shoulder usage (in between peak and off peak) up from 26.7 to 44.1
Whilst I can absorb the increase..there will be many who cant...
(I have reverse cycle air conditioning as does everyone else in the building
but I never use it...)

Re: Protests in Europe.
Have too much wood already. Have to pile it up and burn it in piles all up and down the pasture. Have a 3 foot diameter, 80 foot oak down. Several more large, native, pecan trees and large limbs everywhere.vege57 wrote:HawkTheSlayer wrote:Quite frankly, it's going to be a cold winter for me.

I don't have a wood burner here. But I do have a huge one in the shed. It could heat a reception hall.
My brother has a $2000 top of the line, soapstone on cast heater. Great unit. But they use it sparingly.
Too lazy to cut and split wood. Lol. And clean ashes.
And the splitter splits both ways! The cylinder is mounted BELOW the ram and when you finish a split , you don't have to return the ram. You just split again going the other way.
I'm not sure I could get a wood burner in this manufactured outfit, or how safe it would be.
