Jails and solutions.

Thanks, that is exactly the issue I see.
Someone commits a crime, gets jailed for 8 years at a huge cost to the taxpayer. Look at the cost of the police in arresting him, the cost of the lawyer and state prosecutor, the room he sleeps in every night, food, health care, the lot. It is enormous.
He pays no tax, contributes nothing to society for 8 years.
After 8 years of being schooled by hardened criminals, he is let out into a world he is an alien in. He's pretty much unemployable. The world has changed, his old friends have left him or got on with their lives.

What are his options?

They could learn to play the blues?
