I've seen animals bring out things in people, that people can't seem to come close to. Animals are different don't judge, hugging and animal is therapeutic, the hospice that helped with my mom incorporated our 2 dogs for therapy, especially after she was bedridden. Just by getting her to throw a ball for them to catch/chase, it made her move parts of her body that wasn't getting any real exercise. Just holding an animal feels safer than contact from people.

I remember one instance of when me and a girlfriend used to go to the local "Stand Downs" around the KCMO metro and give free chair massages to vets. One guy came over and asked what this was? Why? What does it do for you? etc. We asked him if he'd like to get one, and he hesitated and said no. But, he went up in the bleachers and sat and watched us for a couple of hours. One of the old timer guys would always hang around and talk to us while we worked, and told us you're not likely to get him and several others to go for this. Guys who have recently returned from active duty in a hot spot don't trust people they don't know behind their backs. But....after that couple of hours, he came back down, and asked my friend if he could sign up, and could he have her (pointing at me). After we got done, he asked how much do you guys charge for these at your office? I gave him one of my flyers, and he said he wasn't sure he could pay that. But, I found out he was a real handyman kind of guy, so we swapped services. He helped us fix up our new office, and I and my office partner gave him unlimited massages.

And there are the people who take their pets to hospitals, rehabs, children's wards, etc. A lot of people feel SAFER with an animal, because they know they have no desire to hurt them.

Thank you Elizabeth.  I know about the work animals do helping the disabled and in therapy.  I don't know if horses can help Jazz.  This 13 year old girl is completely destroyed.  She's self destructive, destructive to others and suicidal.  I have not spoken to anyone even caring for her.  I would believe that caring for an animal  might get her outside herself.  The pain this child is in is unimaginable.

The middle girl who was also beaten and repeatedly raped, she's 12, is angry, bitter, but considers herself the strong one. She just wants never to see her family again and be adopted by her foster mom. She is also in therapy but doing well.

I'll be praying for them. Have faith, miracles DO happen. I was in a similar mode by my senior year of high school. Tried to kill myself, but God provided the RIGHT people and methods to help me, and totally turned me around. They're very young, it's too soon to give up. KEEP THE FAITH SISTER ;o)
