Pope Francis: ‘We Are Racists, We Are Racists’

ROME, Italy — Pope Francis accused the West of racism Friday, insisting migrants are “subdivided” by skin color and country of origin.

“Refugees are subdivided,” the pontiff declared during a lengthy Good Friday interview on Italian television. “There’s first class, second class, skin color, [whether] they come from a developed country [or] one that is not developed.”

“We are racists, we are racists. And this is bad,” the pope stated.

As he has done on other occasions, Francis compared the current problem of migrants and refugees to the flight into Egypt of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus when King Herod was seeking to kill him.

“The problem of the refugees is a problem that Jesus suffered too, because he was a migrant and a refugee in Egypt when he was a child, to escape death,” he said. “How many of them are suffering to escape death!”

Calypso, I love your political posts, but statements like this are just wrong and mean, and frankly really dumb.

Apostasy is the complete and voluntary abandonment of the Christian religion, whether the apostate embraces another religion, such as Paganism, Judaism, Mohammedanism, etc., or merely makes profession of Naturalism, Rationalism, etc.

To the best of my knowledge, the pope has not abandoned Christianity. He is not an apostate. So spare us the hyperbole please. Its just plain dumb.

Are his statements on this matter wrong and even annoying? Yes.

The Pope does not watch TV. Thats a good thing. On the other hand, his only daily newspaper is to the far left side of the Italian political spectrum. He is basically a victim of fake news. He is wrong on a lot of this stuff, but he is not an apostate. He is grossly uninformed.

Popes usually have a confessor who they have confided in for a long time. Pope Saint John Paul II said that he went to confession 3 times a week.

This MAY all well be true. BUT....BUT....BUT, how do you really KNOW this as a "fact"?

If you actually read the Bible it is completely different from what the Catholic church teaches, preaches and promotes. That is why the "Priests" discourage Bible reading and why the Catholic church published their own version of the "Bible". I believe that the Catholic church IS apostate!

I've had SOOOOO many Catholic friends over the years, and absolutely loved them. BUT, I could never understand their lack of knowledge over the Bible. I asked one of my friends if Catholics ever had things like Bible study like so many other churches, and she said No, why should we? We got all that in grade school. I was like HUH? Is that it?! She said yes. And I said but, how can you get a good understanding of the Bible if that's all you get? There are people who have been studying the Word for DECADES of their lifetime, and still coming out with more knowledge. I remember being in GAs as a girl, and each step I took, one of the requirements was to read the Bible in a different version, and I always chose that as one of my steps to conquer. Over the years as a child/teenager, I got to see why it was important to continue to study and re-read, because as you grow and acquire life experiences, you come to have a better understanding of the examples and incidents described in the Bible and a much better comprehension of what it meant. She carried her Bible every Sunday to church, but never opened it at home..... I never understood why so many priests had their services in Latin when so few in their congregation even knew the language. I tend to lean toward your statement of apostate, but haven't quite made it that far.....yet.
