A college degree can be a very valuable thing or it can just be a piece of paper. It all depends on what the person learned in college. I have a very smart friend who became a doctor. He didn't like it. He quit and worked his way through engineering school as a plumber. He rebuilt the engine in his VW Beetle when he was in high school.
My dad dropped out of high school and went to work as a carpenter. He was in trouble for skipping too much school and they wanted him to stay another year. He started his own company and employed dozens of people over his career. He also supported my Mom going to college after my brother and I finished college. None of us could have finished our college without him, at least he made it much easier for us.
Successful people are successful because they worked for it. There is nothing wrong with a good college education, if it teaches skills useful in your chosen career. The trick is deciding whether the cost of the degree is worth the benefit. That's where people getting degrees in gender studies social services go astray. If they want a career in that field to do good things for people it's a noble thing, but not if you have to strap on six figure debt or saddle your parents with that debt that they can't afford.

I had a friend in college who was 3 years younger than me. I was 21 went I first started. I worked for 3 years before I made my mind up to go.
His dad was a jeweler. Wanted him to get a business degree and continue the business. He was having a little trouble and had to sit out a semester or two. When he finally came back, his mind was made up. He was going to be a psychology major.
Even as a kid , I told him it was a useless degree unless he wanted to go all the way to PhD.
Given the amount of weed he smoked, and his horrendous grades in easy 100 level business classes, I knew he'd never make it.
But he loved it! He fount his place. Used to analyze me all da time. One time i got pissed and asked him if this shit was going to cost me $150/hr later.
After that, he did great.
Got his bachelor's degree. Then his master's from the same university.
Then got his doctorate from Tulane. Moved to NOLA and still lives there today.
Taught at UNO for a few years and finally got tenured at Tulane.
I sent him a mail a while back. Said he was going to retire soon and start a rock and roll band. Lol.
I forgot to mention he was indeed a great guitar player with no sense of time.
Told me he hasn't done shit for years. Maybe teach one class a semester. Work max 10-12 hours a week.
Mostly oversee graduate students playing with rats, just like he used to do. Lol.

They will both have a student loan to pay off, I have housed them, fed them , clothed them and supplied them with vehicles during their time at uni, But if it means they get to do something they really want to do, then it will have been worth it

Industrial Arts colleges return some of the biggest "bang for the buck" if the student likes the skills.

Waiting tables requires no education, and in an upscale restaurant can make hundreds and even thousands of dollars per day. A good bartender can also make a lot of money.

after going through college and left with college loans i determined that my children WOULD NOT have college loans. I paid for their education. My youngest had a full scholarship for 4 years. The others worked part time. Their choice.

Trade school graduates were in great demand a few years ago and probably still are. A graduate of welding school I think starts about $35? I don't know what their top wages would be.
I don't know what a bartender makes. Probably depends on speed and to a degree showmanship. It's probably an excellent environment to talk business and make deals. A bartender would have an inside edge, I think.
Commie fun!
