My tablet, a Samsung Tab A, started misbehaving. It's 2 or 3 years old. Not old. I would throw me out of whatever I was doing and put up something else. Very frustrating. Then I bought two new audio books and the tablet wouldn't recognize them and add them to my library. I took it to the geek squad. The operating system is starting to fail so it's forgetting data like what I was doing and that I had a library. No fixing it.

I got a new one. A Galaxy S7. Now I have buyer's remorse. Could that old tablet have been fixed?

For dying batteries you can try "pranking", that is put your battery in the freezer for about 2 or more hours then leave it at room temperature till any moisture has dried off. With the freezing, the purpose it to meld the battery cells together and make it somewhat possible for them to hold a charge. But if successful they will hold a fuck all charge and you will maybe get a few minutes from it. Only do this with a dying battery.

Thanks the battery is cactus and I need a new keypad anyway so I'll either get the keypad and battery or get a new laptop.   Probably the former.  I like a challenge and I don't need anything really fancy anyway.
