Thoughts About Time
I was out for my usual walk and prayer time when a thought occurred to me.
Let’s suppose that a friend of yours told you of an investment where you could put in let’s say $ 80.00 but, get interest so your meager $ 80.00 turned into a million dollars. You would jump at the chance right? You might be a bit skeptical and you might want to think about it but, it would be a very good deal.
Now let’s also suppose that you no longer have the $80.00 to invest but, you have $5.00, $10.00, or $20.00 left. What if that same friend told you that you could still turn that money into a million dollars. Sounds good, right?
In a way, Christ is offering us a better deal even than that. If we devote our life or what’s left of it to God, we can inherit eternal life. In other words, our meager physical years can be exchanged for millions of years of eternal life. For those of you who think of yourselves as biblical scholars, I am not intimating nor saying that salvation is "earned", "deserved" nor "worked for". Salvation is a free gift. Sounds like a good deal, right?
In essence, that is what the gospel message is all about. Our meager physical life for eternal life with God. The Creator, Author and all powerful King of Kings and Lord of Lords wants us to stay alive forever. We have a choice, we have the freedom to choose and we can certainly choose punishment and torment with the devil and his demons or we can choose eternal life with God.
In a small way, we have the freedom to choose crime, chaos, anarchy and lawlessness here on Earth or we can choose to live within the law. We can be free or we can be imprisoned for our crimes. It really is that simple. We really do have that choice.
What this implies is that we can decide what the outcome of our life is. We can choose a life of crime, punishment, imprisonment and looking over our shoulder every moment of every day or we can choose a carefree life of loving God, freedom, good deeds and peace. I will reiterate, we really do have a choice and that choice is ours. No constitution nor lack thereof can give it nor remove it from us. No Bill of Rights grants it nor takes it away. No legislation gives it nor removes it. It’s not a “right” given by government nor law. You won’t find it in writing. It isn’t written on your forehead. It’s not taught in school. You may not "see it written” on your heart but, it is there. It may not be "popular" nor politically correct but, it's true nonetheless.
In short, we're going to live with God forever or we are going to be punished with the devil. It really is that simple. The Bible says that we are appointed once to die and then the judgement. There are no second chances, no mulligans and no do-overs.
