Re: Tuna Casseroles
I don't eat no casseroles . I eat tuna straight out of the can and won't eat it with anything added .
This just reminded me of something I did last month . Bumble Bee tuna sale 59c a can ! "Great price "thought senile ol' DB so I bought 10 cans , got home showed the wifey what a great bargain I got and opened a can and indulged (she left because Italians think eating tuna out of the can is disgusting ) but the tuna didn't taste good . I got pissed off and by the time I got halfway thru the can I had an email out to Bumble Bee about their crappy quality control and how much their product had degenerated from when I was a kid eating their tuna fish . Felt good cause I showed them and really ripped them another one . 2Weeks later and the wife is wondering why the other 9 cans of tuna are still clogging up her cupboard and when am I going to finish my " great bargain" ( yeah she talks with quotes) . I had to let her know and eat crow and told her that I wasted the money and the tuna wasn't as good as it used to be but not to worry ,that I sent an email to Bumble Bee and was expecting an apology and maybe restitution for all 10 cans of crappy tuna .
She looked at me and shook her head ! Whats with the head shake ? She reminded me that I was bought up on Chicken of The Sea and despised every other brand ,especially Bumble Bee .
I think I'm getting too freaking old to be let out anymore - the stray cats in the nieghborhood were eating well for 9 days

So I turned the fish into a really nice pie with a crumb on top and called it "chicken pie". Well guess what? They loved it.
"What's for dinner tonight?" "Chicken pie" "Oh goody yum yum yum"
Years later I told them it was fish and they never forgave me and still to this day rant on and on and on about the 'chicken' pie.
I never could fool my kids, though. I cooked beef tongue, and called it steak, slicing it like ya would flank steak. Didn't fall for it, but ate it, anyway. It was either that, or go hungry.
Now beef tongue is as expensive as ribeyes.
When i was at university( that's college for yanks) me and my buddy had every night designated for food.
Monday-traditional NOLA red beans and rice day
Tuesday-open
Wed-beef tongue
Thur-oysters on the half shell fresh shucked in front of you at the bar for 25 cents each.
Frid-open
Sat-BBQ something
Sun-fried speckled trout or redfish
Beef tongue is good. We would parboil it in liquid crab boil and skin it. Then cook it in a dark roux gravy. When it was tender, we'd take it out and slice it small slices and return the slices to the gravy for a few minutes.
Tonnberre et e'clair! Mai's C'est si bon, ouais!
Cook some rice....!

LOL. Kids make the best drama queens on the planet, no?Red Lily wrote:They ate most everything except fish and to hear them tell the story now you'd think I intentionally tried to poison them and they only survived by sheer luck.
But I hear ya. I guess all kids have that one thing that just doesn't cut it for them. Mine was lima beans. When I was around 12, I asked my mom if I couldn't please beg off of them. Honestly, it was all I could do just to swallow the things. I got a reprieve.
But not liking fish?! That's just not right. Did you have them tested?

Kids. I tried having my daughter tested for naivety, and they said none existed. So, when the age of dating started around, I took her on drives, pointing out a few roads asking, "Now, do you think you should go along if a boy wants to drive down that one?"Red Lily wrote:2cent wrote:LOL. Kids!!
My mother used to sit me on the couch and sit next to me and say "ok we're going to pretend like we're at the movies".
Then she'd put her hand on my leg and say "ok what are you supposed to do?" I was supposed to slap it away Lol.
It was a bit of fun but I know deep down she was quite serious. The thing I remember the most is her telling me to be very careful because "men have more arms than an octopus!"

But, never would we admit to mom that we kinda liked 'em. Well, only so far, that is.
Yeah, Mom's busy trying to instill serious integrity into her child, and we're busy trying to get out of it.

Re: Tuna Casseroles
What is the difference between a person on welfare and one on Social Security?
The person on welfare feeds his cat tuna, as he can't buy cat food on an EBT card.
The person on Social Security eats cat food as he can't afford tuna.
Oh and keeping with the topic, I use egg noodles
Another one, why are folks from Charleston, S.C. like the Chinese?
Both like rice, can't understand either, and they worship their ancestors........attributed to Sanford Birdsie
