New products are better than old products
New 'stuff' is better than old 'stuff'.
There is a common misconception that old stuff is better.
I hear the same comments, 'my parents had a fridge/tv that lasted forever', 'they don't make stuff how they used to ...........'
People forget ALL the assets your parents bought that did NOT last forever.
Because those assets were tossed out after a few years, they are also gone from memories.
People forget the many models that had design flaws that all failed early.
They only remember the few good designs. Only the few good ones survived, those ones are remembered.
This is a beneficial psychological feature.
'They don't make stuff how they used to'.
No, gosh no. No way. The company would fail within years if they did.
New cars now have a 10 year warranty! In the old days , it was a 1 year warranty.
I bought some fridges for downstairs, from memory they have a 7 year warranty.
The tolerances, metallurgy, efficiency and design testing nowadays are unheard of 30 years ago.
Inverter technology, soft start motors, brushless motors, (new) tactile keypads. These are all advantages.
Buy dearer stuff, it is better. I never buy cheap. If there is only 'cheap' available, I go without.
I start my searches with the dearest on top. For this economic law:
My Makita tools are an outstanding example of this law.
It'ld be exactly the same with De Walt, MILWAUKEE or similar.

.......... “It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little.
When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all.
When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done.
If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”
― John Ruskin .............

Re: New products are better than old products
Only Makita and Ryobi are with the money.
The others mentioned , are garbage today.
Nothing like years ago when they were dependable.
I have real good results with Harbor Freight products and tools at a lower, fair price..
And they have very good weekly deals on many items.
Additionally, they frequently offer 25% off any single item.
I applied my digital coupon for 25% off on a new generator last week.
I saved $120.

ryobi were ok over 20 years ago. They are not in a good league now.
Milwaukee are preferred by most tradies over Makita, reputation for being tougher than Makita
Makita have better NVH and a wider range of tools.

you have been wrong before, but this beyond uranus. Products are no longer built to last, but to get the coveted "energy star".
