Re: Gone to Far?
...they babble on about fires. Are they gonna ignore the palpable fire hazard of those damned, double-damned BATTERY CARS? Already, BRAND NEW, they've caught fire left alone in a ship hold...one carrier sunk, the other towed in for scrapping...and those battery cars were STILL smoldering as the salvage crews were off-loading them at the dock! TWO WEEKS after the fire mostly flamed out.
But they're okay. A barbecue grill, no.
It's time some MEN grabbed the Sheriff and reminded him who he works for. And if he has a problem with that...you can teach, or remind, him what happened to Sheriff Henry Plummer, of Bannack, Montana.

Even on your property.
During Labor Day Weekend! Lol.
I doubt most will pay heed.
When the fire squad comes over...look carefully.
If you know them, give them all a beer, and tell them to take off their coats.
If you don't...that's why God gave us boom-sticks.
Firemen don't like getting shot at.

Re: Gone to Far?
i assume no-one here has witnessed a real fire.
I've seen a small (relatively) one in New Zealand.
it was like a big noisy crazed animal. The noise was surprising.
I came over the top of a hill behind our house, fire trucks were there.
It would be NOTHING like a fire in heatwave conditions.

Re: Gone to Far?
Some of us have.
I've witnessed house fires, commercial-district fires, been on the edge of forest fires (evacuated) and one shipboard fire in the Navy.
None of those fires happened in parking lots. The only way they'd cross parking lots is if they were big enough to have created their own mushroom cloud of heat and gas - a firestorm. It can happen in an intense forest fire, or in a firebombing, as happened to Dresden...but it wouldn't start that way.
A barbecue is a fire hazard only if the users are intoxicated AND the grass is dry AND there is no one with sense enough to have a garden hose ready.

Re: Gone to Far?
Not all campuses are on concrete parking lots with a complete lack of trees and dry fuel around the perimeter. Sparks and embers are carried on the breeze and this is the danger and the more a fire rages the more wind updraft is created. They create their own weather.
A bunch of drunk and stupid kids stoking open flames out in the open would pose a danger in most situations of this kind.
Witnessing house and commercial fires is nothing like being stuck in the middle of an erratic wind fueled out of control blaze and these blazes travel and spread a lot quicker than most people realize.
Drunk stupid kids aren't the most sensible in society.

Um....
Most tailgaters are adults with families that come in for the game. Usually in nice RV's and motor homes.
They usually set up tents and cook and eat a feast before game time.
Tailgating must be different at Oz University .

Well, that would make it somewhat different then because there's no such thing in Oz so it's hard for people to even imagine it. It's like talking at cross purposes. If there's a bbq somewhere in Oz it would be put on by those organizing a particular event. You don't sort of bring your own.
People don't have bbq's on their tail gates at events here. Ever! Nor does anyone watch college football. I don't even know if they have college/university football. Lol.
Sounds like fun if you're into it.

Yes, tailgating is a different term here. I knew exactly what you meant, it is really good.
I've done that sort of thing. It's like camping with the comfort !!!!
It's almost as good as cycling with a backwind.
Having any fire in a heatwave.
Nah.

Jokingly or not, the mod should delete this post.
This sort of encouragement is wrong. To say the least.
