Stupid Diets
And I do mean stupid.
This started w/the doc thinking my leg probs may be arterial rather than muscular, so I decided to see what I might be able to do diet-wise to improve matters.
I end up at CATO Institute - an embedded link from, IIRC, the American Medical Ass.(es) Basically, a low-cholesterol diet.
First they give a list of good sources of protein: (partly) MILK, and other dairy products.
Out the other side of their mouths, they say to AVOID saturated fats: (which include) MILK, butter cheese, ...
Yeah, they probably mean to drink watered down milk, but, If God wanted us drinking that 2% slop, he'd have delivered 2% cows.
Same goes for butter. If God wanted us eating margarine, (barf), cows would be expressing oil from their utters.
Next up:
Grains. A great source of grains, they say, is crackers.
But AVOID foods = high saturated fats. Which you'll find in ...you guessed it ...CRACKERS!
There's more, but I'll spare you. Me thinks those PEOPLE are crackers. But you knew all that. Just sharing a bit of frustration, and I bet you've had your share of "diets," yourselves.

hey 2!! Just an idea here...i've been reading up on nattokinase...japanese origin and supposed to be good for the circulation and associated. I just purchased this am so hasn't arrived yet.

They keep changing their minds about everything anyway don't they?

Cut down on highly processed foods and refined carbohydrates is what I'd do. I wouldn't touch margarine or diet drinks/products with a 40 foot pole! They not only taste foul they are carcinogenic. You might as well drink water than low fat milk. With everything in life moderation is the key. Go for the real thing but just don't overdo it on a regular basis.
And progressively move a little bit every day.

Doctors aren't trained in nutrition. They don't call it a practice for nothing. The Federal gov't gets involved in this stuff too and they know even less. Food Pyramid...someone needs to be shot for that. the 'ExPirts' change things around every 10 to 15 years often contradicting themselves. Lots people lose weight on their own and belong to no groups. There's no secret. Less food, move a little and rethink things...beforehand is best. Diet Pills are a waste of time.

Although I need to lose at least 5 lbs., (10 = better), my goal is to lower the cholesterol; aka, open up the artery lines.
My biggest 'cross' is butter. I use it cook with, then top vegies and 'taters w/it, and am not shy when it comes to toast.
But yes, I agree with you guys. Everything in moderation is the 'rule of thumb' I've always followed, too. And if you've put a little more in than you meant to, then; less input, more output - just like you folks w/common sense say.
And of course I agree w/what y'all say about the contradictors writing these stupid diets. Expressly, the "pyramid."
FIVE or more servings of fruits and vegetables daily?! I'd look like the broad side of a barn!

and they said you could have 10 or 12 breads per day. "BREAD' is actual bread, pasta, rice, etc...ya cain't do that. I hold that food pyramid and the gov't responsible for the increase in heart disease and diabetes and obesity and related deaths. Notice you don't see that pyramid thing anymore. Did you know that in the 40s the gov't recommended that men and women in particular smoke cigarettes to kill their appetite and control their weight.
