Art Bell was great.

Listening to a broadcast of C2C AM, and have come to realize that Art Bell, deceased now several years, was a great radio host. Not to be mean, but George Noory has never deserved Art's place. He's not in the same league, IMHO.

In tonight's rebroadcast of a show from 1996, Art had callers tell stories, and then had listeners judge the stories as to whether they were true or the caller had made them up. Good stories, great show.

I don't think Noory is capable of it.

He certainly was interesting: His Y2K position was about as wrong as possible. It did have the ability to end "Lifetime Warranty" products by stating they were not Y2K compliant. Even though the products in question had no ability to tell time.

I've worked a lot of nights and listened to him while I was driving. He was very entertaining but it stopped there for me. He seemed to adopt the belief system of every guest each night. I couldn't take him seriously. One night he would be talking about God and Satan being buddies and the next night he would be talking about being visited by shadow people or interdimensional beings.

Of course, most of his best stuff was "out there". His "Mel's Hole" show was very amusing. It's in wikipedia now.

Never heard another radio host imbue his program with callers like that. It was very popular.
