I've thought for years a combination of voting by email and manual.
Doing things manually on paper went out of date over a decade ago.
I buy online, I bank online, I send letters online.

Manual voting by pencil, pen or punchcard:
Entire process takes about a week.
Electronic voting takes at least 2 years, but probably never gets done.
