Salman Rushdie Stabbed at New York Event

The 75-year-old was attacked on stage at the Chautauqua Institution in western New York on Friday morning.

121 years ago the cops also sucked at limiting attacks against other political people in western ny. there was this exceptional man named William McKinley who was bumped off. but Gabi got bitten in Az so maybe its fair game.

He was a very brave man. Was there any security? You can never get too lax about these kooks.

Its been a while since that book and he let his guard down . That's a sleepy area of NY and you don't figure that they'll come after you in a heavily forested area with nothing but woods around for hundreds of miles .

But in the middle of those woods about 2 hrs west is this and its very desolate .

This hits deep. I have a LONG history with the area - the county, the lake, the Chautauqua Institution. The small-town DPW I worked at, out of high school? It was in fact, Chautauqua Institution. Never mind the name; what it is, is a cultural center and private resort community, with a summer cultural (and light entertainment) program.

Think of a university campus, without the classrooms. In fact, classes are taught, although it's not a big aspect of the programs...but not in traditional buildings. Several open auditoriums; a few studios for training of sculptors and musical-instrument repairs (don't know how that came to be, but...)

Rushdie was typical of the kind of speaker that would be invited there. Now, the politics of the trustees of the Institute, were conservative; morphed liberal in the 1960s. They grew Left during the Clintonista years; and then, hard-Left. Now, I know from reading local news there, they are Woketarded SJWs.

I would not call that area "Sleepy." It's rural; but Jamestown is 18 miles south...a city of 40,000 Population is Swedish and Italian, traditionally.

What it is, is orderly. Or what it was, when I was there. Even when I returned, to rent a condo off-season while working on the railroad in Buffalo, 64 miles away...this was 2005-6 and 2006-7...it was still clean and safe.

Swedes are stolid, quiet people. Italians like law and order, under their terms; but the two groups got along well. There's friction with the summer people who come to Chautauqua Lake...but less so with the patrons of the Institution, who are the upper crust of Long Island, Massachusetts, Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Cleveland. These are not poor people - summer cottages in the Institution grounds, COST. And even owners have to pay Gate Fees if they remain in for the nine-week summer season.

In the off season, the Grounds, empty of summer bustle, are beautiful...a Victorian village of Carpenter-Gothic wooden structures. Institution buildings are often in Greco-Roman stone or brick - impressive. Brick pedestrian walkways are all about, in the center area. Cars are controlled...I see now, the roots of the Elites' hatred of cars. Martha's Vineyard or Chautauqua...they're controlled.

In those years, there was only about 200 year-round residents. Summer residents total about 20,000...probably more, now. I'd say the modern winter population, with telecommuting, work-from-home and the Internet, probably is about 5000 now.

The summer crowd is law-abiding, peaceable, civil. The biggest events might be fistacuffs from college kids after a party - preppie parties get rowdy. There is a police force there - before 911 service, one winter, I was the nighttime dispatcher, as well as the Water Works attendant. I think I might have gotten three calls a week, and usually trivial stuff, like a dog lost.

Summer season, I think they had about 12 cops. The Sheriff's headquarters was five miles away, so they didn't feel the need.

But to see this happen here...it really pains me...

The left...they remind me of this young male graduate who applied for a job at a very successful christian based company ..and he thought that being woke on his resume and claiming working for A VERY woke democrat senator was a resume enhancer. LOLOL

WEll if nothing else kills him the ventilator will.    Might be a good idea to chck and see if any doctors or one of the nurses is muslim. Isn't there still a  bounty on his head.   Let's see who claims it.
