Most of your issues with my idea appear to be satisfied by a board policy that lengthy departures be announced.
"I'm leaving the board" works fine -- short, to the point, nonjudgemental, nonaccusatory, no problem.
Nobody need worry that you've been victim of foul play by democrats, but no one expects you back. Perfect. You haven't left the door open.
If and when you return, fine.

I was just thinking how inconvenient it would be...for me to have to announce ahead of time, my plans to drop dead in the shower tomorrow, say...

parafins are a buildup that if not cleaned out, can clog an oil or gas pipeline, leading to a rupture in its line. theyre generaly collected before the product enters the line. but enough pass through seperation to allow eventual buildup.
