Renewable energy
Is the way to go.
We have solar panels on the roof, our power bill is about $120 every 3 months.

Re: Renewable energy
Nothing is for everyone. What about people who can't afford the up front expense? Not everyone has the real estate with solar exposure. If you mandate solar the cost will go through the roof. It will flood the market when it's ready.
Converting DC to AC for distribution and storage of power for the grid is not feasible yet. Only when everyone has their own power with backups can we get rid of fossil fuel. Solar is only a personal solution for some. Enjoy it if you can. You'll find that furnishing 100% of your power without the grid is very costly and requires constant attention. Most people aren't capable of maintaining the systems.

Re: Renewable energy
Certainly, there is on one technology that will suit everyone for 100% of their energy demands.
Not every person on the globe will have 100% solar power with batteries, drive an EV, grow their own organic veges and do Tai Chi 3 times a week.
Fossil fuels will be used for the foreseeable future by many people.
Every few weeks though I see the trend towards renewable energy.
It becomes more economic to use.
It is where many new investments are going
