What are they going to do with all the coal mines that they
close down....
Thats a helluva lot of big holes in the ground....
Are they just going to put "closed" signs up on all of them....
OR will they use all those goddam holes to store.....wait for it....
Nuclear waste.....(from overseas of course...we wouldnt mine uranium...perish the thought)
Now that would cause one helluva shit storm....
Just sayin'........
I have NO idea of the landscape or the type of mining that's done your way. In the States, the most-common coal mining was "strip-mining." There would be a relatively slim seam of coal, and the coal company would just dig it up and shovel off the coal.
In the early years - the 1940s and later when earth-moving equipment on that scale came to be - the coal companies just left the landscape ruined. That wasn't going to be allowed to stand - one of the few good things done by the government eco-squads. Now the land must be reclaimed, with the soil on top of the seams, put back down; terraced in roughly the same way it was found, and surfaces replanted. It is, or was, a successful approach.
Deep coal mines? Oddly, I haven't heard what happens to them. Lot of the deep mining in West Virginia. I expect the entrances were blocked permanently, and the mines just left to collapse. Often they did on their own.
In the West, around gold-mining camps, there were any number of deep mines. They were just abandoned, often with the town. Some collapsed, and many were death-traps for trespassing explorers, decades later. Even now, on ATV trails, you can find them. Some are chained off. Many, still, are not.
The town of Leadville, Colorado has/had HUGE piles of mining tailings...the rock was pulverized to get the silver ore out, and just left. Leadville was a sort of sister camp to Aspen, and only about 30 miles away as the crow flies. Aspen got a new life as a ski center and later, expensive resort. Leadville is a sort of preserved, partially-re-inhabited ghost. It is not so beautiful as Aspen, and aside from its history, and some preserved rail lines (run as a tourist tour) it's not booming at all.
Gilman, Colorado, was a lead-mining company town, right up to 1984. The EPA shut the town and the mine down, for pollution into the water table. The town was just locked up - virtually all the housing was owned by the mining company, and the EPA ordered them to order residents out. No exceptions. Water and power were shut off, and the mine shaft, under the water table...had been kept clear of water with pumps. The pumps were turned off, the mine flooded, and that was that.
A redevelopment plan surfaced ten years ago but fell through. The town is a modern ghost, complete with several abandoned cars in garages. I can't imagine leaving in such a hurry you leave your car...but I was through it in 1990; and there was a company truck in one shed. A 1957 Chevrolet, in well-preserved state.
I was through it again in 1996, and the vandalism was shocking. All the windows in all the structures had been busted out. Since then, I'm told, the gang taggers have been through. But in 1996, that nice Chevy truck was beaten to crap - all the glass broken, and some dolt bashed on the body with a hammer.
But...yeah. Abandoned mines with the entrances plugged with concrete, or built walls with doors, are not uncommon.
Nuclear waste? Only if you have REALLY low-intelligence government leaders.

I am the boofhead of the week.
Open cut mining is the same as strip mining....
Open cut mining accounts for about 80% of coal mining
in Australia...
Would appear that there are very few opportunities for
the disposal of nuclear waste as suggested by my naive

Dominic Perrottet for removing the NSW flag from the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which is where? In NSW!
So now there is an Aussie flag and an Abo flag.
The Australian flag should encompass ALL Australians and if the Abos don't consider themselves Australians they can #$%# off and save taxpayers the neverending millions of wasted $$$$$s they spend on booze, glue and paint tins.

This ugly rag masquerading for a flag has no meaning whatsoever to the majority of Australians...

Perrottet is out of his depth...
He speaks and performs like a kid on work experience...
One minute he's putting an ugly rag on the harbour bridge, the next
he's ducking and weaving like a middleweight about the Barilaro
debacle...and in between he's screwed up the flood relief and
lets not forget he wants to change the school hours and have
kids get to school at 7am...or whatever....
And everyones on strike...
Have I missed anything..
No wonder the joints in such a f....n mess....
Imbeciles running the asylum.....

If you're under 50 and catch Covid, you have a 1 in 10,000 chance of dying
Most people who die are men over 70 or women over 80
The median age to die from Covid is 83
The average life expectancy in Australia is 82.9
Even frail elderly residents in aged care homes have a 95 per cent chance of surviving infection
More than 60,770 aged care residents out of the 63,875 infected have recovered from Covid
Just one in 20 in aged care homes have died after they caught the virus
Despite the virus evading vaccine immunity he still argued that people should get the four shots because it lessened the chance of serious illness.
The man is an idiot. He's tryinng to push for a mask mandate again. It will NEVER fly!
The ABC needs to be defunded. It's out of touch with reality like all leftist loon agendas are.
