Very robust, controls are for big fingers to use, good dense steel.
Took the top plate off to grease all the threads, on the chipper plate is engraved 'Regrind to 25 degrees'. I so like this sort of design.
It's made to be used and sharpened, so here is the factory specs so you can sharpen it properly.

Saw how it is designed to be used, set and adjusted while in use, nice smooth actions. Blade and base were quite flat, sharpness was oh hum. Even out the box it planed some pine quite well.
Once the base, frog and blade is flattened and sharpened it'll be as keen as a  Samurai sword.
It'll slide through wood leaving a highly polished finish.
This is good.

Planing wood by hand is a lost art Sprint and its good to see your that interested in doing precise woodwork . I've got a few very old planes I picked up years ago when I was collecting old tools at garage sales and one ,in particular weighs a good 5 lbs with a basic wood body (oak?)and has various brass adjustments dials on it . The blade had a knick in it and since I'm not good at sharpening I didn't want to take the chance of ruining it . One of these days I'll see if I can get it sharpened properly by someone that knows what they're doing . Its a lost art and most use a power tool to do the job but its not the same . I use a more modern planer ,a Stanley , and it does the job well .

I can well see why electric planers are preferred :-) Doesn't matter if it is sharp or not so much.
Sharpening these sorts of tools is not easy. It's tool quality steel, harder than normal kitchen knives.
About as hard as good Japanese knives, I have a few of those and sharpen them too. Specialist stones are need to sharpen the harder steel.
I like the sound of your old planes. A wipe of boiled linseed oil on the wood might bring out some colour.
