Can You Be Friends With Your Political Opposites?

I used to have friends from both the left and the right and we just got on together with life and had lots of fun. We weren't political back then though and politics was never discussed.

Fast forward to years later when I've come across my leftist friends again from days of yore and it's a whole new ballgame. The polarization is just too great now and I wonder if these people can even remember the days of just having fun.

Before the advent of Trump I would have answered absolutely yes but now not so much. Acquaintances, sure, but real friends? Sadly, for me, the answer is no!

I have absolutely no trust in the center(fencesitters and people players), dumb asses who think everyone can just get along, while the left shits all over them and us. Let alone , associate with them. Whether they are dims or GOP.

I have a leftist cousin. She gets it from her mom. I think she realizes how insane the left is becoming. She was forced to take the jab and now she sees our border and the misuse and abuse of our military. Her son just got out of the army. She got off of farcebook because she was tired of arguing and there is no avoiding it when your real identity is out there. This girl offered to escort my wife with covid into the hospital to cut red tape at the hospital where she worked last year. She is very intelligent, beautiful, and very hard working. If she wasn't my cousin, I'd be interested in dating her despite her political leanings. When we discuss politics, we agree more than disagree on personal matters. It's our view of politicians and their motives where we differ.

Her mom is very leftist and from San Francisco, but we don't discuss politics. I've always been respectful of her and she took great care of my uncle up until he died 2 years ago. She loves and respects me also. I realize you are kind of stuck with family. I can't think of any leftist friends that I want to hang out with.

Leftism is a RELIGION. They're ZEALOTS. They have something to prove, by forcing the Deplorables to live by their, by Leftists' beliefs.

It's a religion where god is the State; and abortion is the sacrament; and Wokeness is the evangelical push. It's a secular religion rejecting freedom, choice and life - except for their own choices, usually focused on sexual gratification and theft from those they despise.

And because it's an irrational belief, not a logically-accepted set of precepts...there is no living with them unless you're also of the cult.

I have leftist family that I would not argue with or harm in any way but that attitude does not go from them to me. I was quite shocked this past year at a degree of malevolence directed at the captain from his sister's son.
My leftist friends dumped me during the obsma years so no problems there.

My two brothers, all the family I have left, are both so far around the bend, they can't see the bend anymore. They're both in the data-tech world, and have been for 25/35 years. They know no other way of thinking; and they both have the self-righteous personality that goes with Leftism. The smug, disdainful, patronizing behavior.

CJ, you may remember...when my mother died, 15 years ago, it was my older brother who was the executor. Fine. NOT fine was, the house that she owned, that I was to be part-owner to...the house I had lived in for two years prior, as an assist/kinda-caregiver (when not at work)...the house that was my HOME...he ordered me out of. Just like that.

I offered to pay rent. I offered to sign a freakin' LEASE with the estate...of which I was one-third owner. Nope...you get out.

I had to get a lawyer involved, it was that nasty. Fortunately a good one; he brokered a deal where I got the house and the two others got most of the cash and other property out of the estate. Which seemed to be a good deal, but unknown to me, CSX was about to become intolerable as an employer.

But that is what comes of Leftism. ADULTS would have sat down and said, how can we solve this? No, I had to spend $5k on a lawyer just to avoid becoming homeless with an empty house sitting there with my furniture in it.

No, I have no use or patience for Leftism.

I have had a similarlily unpleasant experience with a 25 year friendship. It caused me a lot of anguish.
That was his decision. In hindsight he has always been that way when people disagree with him.

How do the tech dweebs do what they do to US? LOOK at the mess they've made with their censoring vital data in a time of crisis. A crisis their cohorts in the media MADE, with their LIES.

And instead of censoring and correcting the liars, they've backstopped the engineered panic and delamination of our culture.

To succeed in the software industry, I am convinced, you need to be autistic, mentally ill, or both.

So I expect nothing else from them. I haven't spoken to either in six years, and that is fine with me.

FWIW...I'm not gonna go take any trips. The whole damn nation is gripped in Covidhysteria...thanks to Fauci's people at the CDC. Face diapers "should be worn" everywhere. I think there's about six counties in the country where the spread is not "very high." New restrictions coming, on movement, and internal passports.

To make us forget about Joe's puppetmasters' Treason with the Taliban.

I don't need to be in that mess, where everyone is looking to check my papers, and box me out because I haven't had the Kill Shot. This is insane. I spent MONEY on that trailer, in June, with the idea that maybe this lunacy had run its course.

I guess not. This summer, RVs were jumping off lots; but probably not so much, now. Bet the used market is pretty soft...
