It's where the flame is being lit this year before it travels to Paris. So they're honoring the original tradition. I don't see anything crazy in it at all and it's nothing to do with Paris.

Been lit there every games and travels to the venue via runners ,walkers , trains , planes and automobiles

You're quite right. The lighting of the flame does always originate there.
