Interesting: Trump for (temp) Speaker of the House
Trump says he’s willing to serve as House speaker for up to 90 days — if it’s ‘necessary’ to unite Republicans
Except for one thing. From the NYP article:
Not sure what to make of this one. Like a commenter said, could backfire if Trump hasn't a clue what he's doing. Plus, the 'Pubs would have to change their rules. And what if he doesn't get voted in? That won't do his campaign any service. Does Trump have inside knowledge that he'd definitely get the job?
I support Trump, so as hard as it is to admit, his words sound a tad old and tired. Hard telling if that's my imagination, or honestly seeing it for it is.
“I have been asked to speak as a unifier because I have so many friends in Congress,” the former president said. “If they don’t get the vote, they have asked me if I would consider taking the speakership until they get somebody longer-term because I am running for president.”
“They have asked me if I would take it for a short period of time for the party, until they come to a conclusion,” he added. “I’m not doing it because I want to — I will do it if necessary, should they not be able to make their decision.”
Trump told Fox that he will travel to Washington and meet with Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill Tuesday, when the GOP conference will hold a candidate forum to discuss potential options for the vacant speakership position.

Does he really have "so many friends in Congress?" I wouldn't have thought so.
But if anything happened to Biden and Harris that would make him President. I'll bet that worries them.

That second bit would be ever so much fun, but, I'm not real keen on hoping for other people's demise. I hear tell it's hard on your fate.Red Lily wrote:Does he really have "so many friends in Congress?" I wouldn't have thought so.

I'm w/you, too, and the number of friends in Congress. You sure about that, Sir?

What could be the benefits of him doing this...i'll be surprised if he does but just 'what if?'
It would be like campaigning.
His base would be loving it.
The left would be having myorcardial infarctions.
Jamal Bowman would be pulling that fire alarm on a daily basis.

Former US president Donald Trump has publicly endorsed Jim Jordan as the next Speaker of the House.
The former president made the announcement on his Truth Social account.

New York Post reported on that yesterday, too. I always thought that Jordan would be the ticket for that position. I'm "iffy" about Steve Scalise, but definitely not an immediate, "No."Red Lily wrote:Former US president Donald Trump has publicly endorsed Jim Jordan as the next Speaker of the House.

Here's a link, but don't expect Hannity to shut his mouth long enough to let Jordan get a word in. It's weird, though. Why did Hannity even need to ask, when Jordan put his name the hat, himself?

Interestingly, the reporter, Victor Nava, assumed that Trump's endorsement assured Jordan as a shoo-in. Hmm.

Frankly, I wonder if Trump knows how to do the job. Plus, not everyone, no matter how much you may agree/like a particular candidate, is cut out for the job.Calypso Jones wrote:What could be the benefits of him doing this...i'll be surprised if he does but just 'what if?'

Re: Interesting: Trump for (temp) Speaker of the House
I've always liked what I've seen of Jim Jordan and he would've been my first thought. Votes for the Speaker need to be 50% apparently and from what I've read there it means that some Democrats would have to cross over to vote for Jordan to get him in. That's assuming that ALL Repubs vote for him as well. Is that feasible? I can't see any Dems being in favor of Jordan.
I've also read that Trump doesn't know the job and 3 months isn't enough time to learn it let alone be effective and I'm not sure that a circus in Congress is what is needed right now.

Fox wanted to get the speakers candidates on Fox before the GOP conference. Every candidate has pulled out of the fox interview so....... HA!!
Fox News’ planned televised event for the House GOP speaker contenders appears to suddenly be down to zero participants.
Majority Leader Steve Scalise is not participating in the event, his spokesperson confirmed to POLITICO. And House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan said he wanted to meet with the GOP conference before a televised event, per his spokesperson — timing that is likely to be difficult with Tuesday’s packed schedule.
A third possible contender, Rep. Kevin Hern (R-Okla.), also announced Friday that he would not be participating.
“We need to make this decision as a conference, not on TV. The Republican conference needs a family discussion,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
This is pretty insulting to Fox. LOLOL Which they deserve.
I wonder if this story willl get legs. I might have to put it in Media.
