My ex wife is still the mother to my children, that would disrespect them.

We actually have a law in Texas about bad mouthing your ex in front of your minor children. My brother doesn't say a derogatory word about their mother in front of them. Talking to me, he refers to her as "the bitch". She cheated on him and abandoned the family. I'm thinking she earned the title. His kids have developed their opinions on their own. Their oldest is 22 and hasn't spoken to his mother in over a year. The youngest will be an adult in a few months. She still sees her mother sometimes.

When I divorced both my sons were men, I gave my wife  half of everything, savings, BMW car, House, and cash for what I thought was fair for half the house contents.

My sons saw that I was a fair and generous father, not a bitter and twisted man who sought to hide his wealth and try to cheat their mother.

For doing that and being the bigger person my sons are close to me and share their lives and their families with me.

Wealth now? I’m worth a lot more now than when I was married to her.

My brother is in the same boat. He owes his ex $17k when he sells his house, but he has gained 50k in equity since the divorce. Even when the ex was travelling to Europe with her new doctor husband and neglecting her chance to be with her kids, my brother picked up the slack and kept his tongue. (He kept a notebook of all of the times she didn't take their kids on her turn just in case.) He is the favorite parent. In fact, if the divorce had gotten messy in court, his in laws were going to testify for him. He takes his kids to visit their other grandparents often and he has a great relationship with them.

Fortunately I had none of that to deal with.

I had 2 divorce solicitor appointments in total, the initial one was to hire one, the other visit was with bringing with me all financial details, pensions, bank statements, two valuations of the marital home, garage valuation of my BMW.

My brief (solicitor) would send me a letter as how things were progressing now and again.

Every Monday my mother would take a £50 cheque I’d given her to give to the brief so I’d be on top of the bill once all had been settled (it’s the way I roll)

Fortunately we only made £90k on the valuation of what we owed the bank so I owed her £45k what she hadn’t paid to the joint mortgage was taken off so I didn’t have to give her half the valuation of the Beamer. I ended up giving her £50k
The best part was keeping 100% of my pension pot and she had her own and I didn’t have to share mine at my retirement.

Indeed!

My exwife and I have a friendly relationship because of how the divorce went.

All my ex's live in Texas. :)
