Helicopter Crash

A helicopter has crashed in a cane field a few miles away in West Baton Rouge Parish. The chopper belongs to the City of Baton Rouge Police Dept. It was assisting in a pursuit. The coroner has been called and reports state there are 2 fatalities.

How awful!  Gotta say, though, that this doesn't make a whole lot of sense:

Sources say the helicopter crew had been sent to assist with a pursuit around 2 a.m. Sunday but never returned.

It appears no one was aware that the chopper had gone down for many hours.

So, iow, the crew on the chopper was not in communication with the ground crew during a car chase?  Seriously?  

Maybe I need to read the 2nd article, before saying any more.

Definitely! NTSB and other federal officials are on the scene.
The BR Mayor just gave a live update. I saw the push notes, but I was busy.

From Hawk's 2nd article:

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will launch an investigation. According to the FAA, the NTSB will be in charge of the investigation.

This is on the national news and major online outlets like MSN.
I'll try to watch the local BR news in about 10 minutes, or at 5:30, or whenever it comes on on Sunday. It's different from weekdays.
