Many people say the illegality of some drugs is the main problem.
The illegality of some drugs provides a profitable market for criminals.
If drugs were decriminalised the criminals would lose their business.
Normal people would not have to associate with crims to buy some pot.
Countries that have decriminalised drugs have fewer problems than areas where drugs are illegal.

In NZ you wont be criminalised for pot unless caught with a shit load of it or you have a fucken bad attitude , But my preference would be for the discretion to be taken away from the police , so it cant be politicised

It depends on which drugs you want decriminalized. All drugs are not the same.

True, but poorly manufactured drugs are a greater risk to the end user than the drug itself , Its a tough one to deal with,

Most people wouldn't use drugs even if they were legal , or would use them in moderation as with alcohol , I'm not sure where my feelings lie in this regard , its a double edged sword

Drug use is a primary motivator for armed robberies, car jackings and assaults. Decriminalizing drugs like meth would more than likely only increase the probabilities.
Weed is another story and why I want to know what Sprint means by his blanket statement of "drugs"

If it was legal and could be purchased it would take away the criminal motivation , as it did when prohibition finished in the US ?

Well they still need money to buy it whether it's legal or illegal don't they? As most people on meth are useless at anything other than rage and sitting at home and scratching their scabs I don't see why it would reduce robberies.
Alcohol is another story. People can function and work and drink, same with weed. Most meth users can't.
