Explosion at Paper Mill!

I hope they turned their air conditioners to "recirculate".

This seems to be becoming more regular. It's a bit of a worry.

You ain't seen nuffin till you've seen a refinery explosion and the resulting , super hot fire.

I heard this fertilizer plant explosion from 55 miles away.

Back in the late 80s , 88 i beleive, I was dipping shad in the Mississippi River at night, well north of baton rouge.  A loud explosion happened suddenly, you could almost feel the pressure wave.

I figured something blew up at Exxon BR Refinery. When I got home at daylight, I found out that a cat cracker had blown up all the way down river in Norco(almost New Orleans) at the Shell refinery. 7 dead. They were in a blast proof operator building, too.

Many years later , I did much work at the refineries on both sides of the Shell refinery there.
Valero on one side, Motiva on the other.

Nothing separates the 3 plants but a fence and a railroad track.  Just one big noise factory.

Sometimes I would be working very high up at Valero and would look down into the Shell plant at that same rebuilt cat cracker and think back.

One time a co-worker asked me what we were going to do if it blew up again.

The answer was simple.
"DIE".

By the time the noise got to me, it was a low rumble because of echoing over a long distance.  It registered .20 on the Richter scale and flattened several buildings and severely damaged a nursing home.  The plant was evacuated because of the fire, but emergency crews were there fighting the fire.  15 died, which is pretty low for the size of the blast. I've worked at some of the refineries below New Orleans. I've even worked on oil and sulphur platforms.

I remember that fire and explosion.

The chemical plants are cleaner than refineries. But a leak will kill you quick. Especially a chlorine or sulfuric acid leak.

There are wind socks everywhere. I would check them often just in case. If you can't go upwind, go cross wind until you can.
