I wouldn't be bothered with the pearl sugar myself lol. Demerara sugar would work just as well. Or sprinkles!
Demerara is a type of cane sugar you can easily buy in packs and holds its shape and stays crunchy. It's great sprinkled on pastry for apple pies.
