Term Limits: The number of congressmen over the age of 70

(CNN)When Patrick Leahy was briefly transported to the hospital Tuesday night -- just hours after he had been sworn in to preside over the pending impeachment trial of ex-President Donald Trump -- every story on the news noted that the Vermont Democratic senator was 80 years old.

Which, surely you would think, makes him the senior statesman in the Senate. Right?
Not by a long shot. There are actually four senators older than Leahy in the chamber, including Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Dianne Feinstein (D-California) who are both 87 years old. (Feinstein was elected to a fifth full term in 2018 although she has, of late, faced questions about her mental fitness for the job. Grassley remains undecided as to whether he will run for an eighth term next November.)
And it doesn't stop there! There are 21 senators between 70 and 80 -- including Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vermont) who turns 80 this fall, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) who turns 79 next month.
In fact, according to calculations made by CNN's Janie Boschma and Christopher Hickey, 50% of the Senate is 65 years old or older, and more than half of Republican senators (54%) are 65 or older.

I've always been in favor of term limits.  Most of these people are way too old. The younger ones, like the squad, are stark raving bonkers though. 40s-50s is probably an ideal age.

Term Limits are ESSENTIAL to return to the Founders' vision of a government of citizen-legislators.

There was to be no Political Elite Class. And there was not, until Amendment 17 took the Senate from State Legislatures' control, and made it another democratic body. Democracy, bah! Democracy is the shortcut to tyranny; and any astute political thinker knows this.

The HOUSE, alone, was to be the democratic body. The Senate was to balance it out; and the President was to be an administrator, chosen by Electors chosen by State Legislatures.

All this has failed, and what could put us on the right road again, is TERM LIMITS. Say, TEN YEARS - ANY office. Ten years elected in Federal posts, and you're done. Go back to farming, or selling insurance.

Someone like Vodka Nan, would have to get a real job. Or fill the time another way. Since there would be no lifers, there would be no pressure to win election after election. Ergo, lobbyists, with their money, would have no influence. They'd disappear - they would offer nothing to THEIR employers.

And the desire of Congress-cretins to regulate, and squeeze, industry, in order to extort that money, also gone. Both bodies, business and government, revert to a more natural stasis.

Term Limits. They can only be done with a Constitutional Amendment; and THAT will only come from an Article V Convention of (credentialed) delegates.

Thar b two types of Congress Critters, Senate (Senators) and House (Representatives) . Senators every 6 years House every 2. This should be changed to 2 4 year terms in off Leap year elections for the House. Senate should be also be limited to two terms. This can be done at the state level. If 2/3 of the states implement this, then it can happen.
