Okay, I'm trying to wrap my head around the whole concept of "sanctuary states"...

If a state can claim that they are going to ignore certain law(s) and get away with it, why can't a state declare that they WILL uphold all laws including immigration law? Firearms law? Criminal law? Election law? Civilian protection laws? Etc.?

Good point.  I'd also like to see states protest by refusing to enforce all federal laws.  Every time a bank is robbed, as long as nobody is harmed, local police tell the bank to call the feds and ignore it.  We can also refuse to detain federal criminals.   If the feds don't want to put them in Federal facilities,  they can release them.

What I don't think the public understands is that it is NOT just Federal Immigration law that is being ignored. Wife read to me a story about a lady who was raped who then killed her attacker. The lady was arrested for defending herself and had to pay the family of the rapist $150,000. I have heard other stories like this and believe that insanity rules the day in liberal land.

It is getting to the point and may already be, where a criminal has a "right" to victimize innocent people but, innocent people do not have a "right" to defend themselves.

Texas still allows deadly force to prevent murder, rape, armed robbery, aggravated assault, arson, and criminal mischief at night.  You can use deadly force if in pursuit of someone stealing your stuff if it's likely you won't get it back otherwise.  You can use deadly force as a response to any illegal entry into an occupied building or vehicle.  That's the law and that is how it is currently set up and recognized in Texas.  Texas gun owners have been killing as many felons as the police for the last couple of decades, and that's just the "justifiable homicides".  Also, you can't be sued civilly unless you are convicted of a crime.  That rapist's family can't sue you for killing their POS family member.

Some Democrats have taken the rhetoric a step further by even going so far as to suggest that DeSantis violated federal law by allegedly enticing them to travel based on false pretenses.

“Like millions of Americans, I have been horrified at the images of migrants being shipped on buses and planes across the country to be used as political props,” Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom wrote on Thursday. “Clearly, transporting families, including children, across state lines under false pretenses is morally reprehensible, but it may also be illegal.”

“I strongly urge the U.S. Department of Justice (US DOJ) to open an investigation into possible criminal or civil violations of federal law based on this alleged fraudulent scheme,” he added.

Speaking to reporters in Martha’s Vineyard near the shelter where migrants were being housed, immigration attorney Rachel Self also accused DeSantis of “kidnapping” the migrants by sending them to an island where millionaires vacation.

I invite Brandon to bring Abbott and DeSantis up on charges.  Those same charges could be applied to Biden for his bussing and flying of immigrants all over the US in the cover of darkness.

If I were Texas governor, I'd consider telling Texans to shut off their outdoor water faucets, arm themselves and protect their property from the invading hordes.  I would increase law enforcement and concentrate on unsafe and stolen vehicles. This includes all cars not titled to the driver and all cars driven by illegals that are not up to date on safety inspections and registration.  I would promote a law to confiscate any car not "legally" owned by an illegal alien and any car used in trafficking of people or drugs. Give an illegal a ride North in Texas and lose your car.  Let these illegals keep walking North and let them starve in the desert.  They will quit coming eventually or Brandon will send his people to coddle them, and he won't be able to hide the expenses from the tax and inflation burdened voting public.  Let's roll up the welcome mat in Texas.

That would be an act of war.  I'd save it until they entered my ranch on the border.  Maybe Texas can make it legal to shoot foreign invaders if you live on the border as soon as they illegally cross the border onto your property.  Last I heard, an invasion is an act of war. You might have people paying to set up sniper nests on your property.
