I lived in an old house that was wired like that. Lol.
All bare wire. No insulation.

Re: Strange and Obsolete Home Features
"Screened-In Front Porch" is how we refer to them now 'a days.
My buddy who I grew up with had a Dutch Door. That EVER so impressed me! But then, so did their huge dog that met us at the back door, when we came in from school and opened the top half.
Had that oil tank in the basement. Creeped me out when I went down there. ('t'was grubby!), but was I ever so impressed by he delivery guy who could take this cap off a pipe on the outside of the house, plug a nozzle from his truck into it, and, by magic!, that tank in the basement would get filled.
We children were told to leave the delivery man alone to do his job. He was such a nice man, who could?
Our dining room had a push button switch by the front door, but, on the other side of the room, had a dimmer switch for the chandelier.
