Tesla Owners Share Alarming Message Received on Screen Amid Heatwave
~Snip~A heat wave is expected to impact the grid in Texas over the next few days,” the message said. “The grid operator recommends to avoid charging during peak hours between 3pm and 8pm, if possible, to help statewide efforts to manage demand.
https://www.westernjournal.com/tesla-owners-share-alarming-message-received-screen-amid-heat-wave/Apparently, part of President Joe Biden’s “transition” away from fossil fuels means we’ll have to stay home during hours of peak electric usage because we won’t be able to charge our cars to go anywhere
It also means doing without air conditioning when you do get a chance to drive your EV. A study by AAA found that cooling a battery-powered car results in a 17 percent drop in driving range, according to The Drive.
Yep, a right regular wave of the future these EV's are. People don't generally care for being inconvenienced, and those who can afford an EV, even less.

Re: Tesla Owners Share Alarming Message Received on Screen Amid Heatwave
I went grocery shopping yesterday and the level I usually park on, straight in from the street, was full so I had to go down into the depths a couple of levels.
I'd never seen it on the level where I usually park but the lower levels all had 2 EV charging stations and both stations on the levels I passed through were all in use.
I was a bit surprised actually and wondered if people with EVs went to places like this so they didn't have to pay for the electricity at home to charge their cars. I thought they needed an overnight charge but anything is better than nothing maybe?

I've heard overnight, too, but just recently, more like one hour.Red Lily wrote:I went grocery shopping yesterday and the level I usually park on, straight in from the street, was full so I had to go down into the depths a couple of levels.

As far as those charging stations in parking lots go, people do have to pay for that, right? Wouldn't it be more expensive than a home hookup?
I really don't have anything against EV's, if that's what people WANT. What I don't appreciate is subsidizing the companies building them on my/our dollar, then shoving them down our throats as a "must have." That's just plain wrong, and makes me dislike the whole business, and look at it as more of a scheme, than an honest business proposition.
If only the gov't could resist medaling.

And the vehicles are not all that well made. A J.D. Powers study showed them to be quite unreliable. To wit:
Don't feed me slop, and try telling me it's lemon chiffon.
https://www.westernjournal.com/new-study-shows-electric-cars-much-lower-quality-gas-powered-vehicles/Researchers found that gasoline cars average 175 problems per 100 vehicles.
By comparison, generic battery-powered cars — excluding Tesla models — average 240 problems per 100 vehicles, while hybrids average 239 problems, according to J.D. Power.
Tesla EV models average 226 problems per 100 vehicles, the report said. The vehicles from Elon Musk’s company were listed separately “because the predominance of Tesla vehicles could obscure the performance of the legacy automakers that have recently introduced BEVs,” J.D. Power said.

Next time I go shopping at that particular supermarket I'll walk over and check out the charging stations more thoroughly for time and cost etc.
My son has a hybrid for driving around town. Petrol starts it and it charges as it drives. It's SO quiet and is a really nice car. I'd be happy with one but I'd not be going full EV yet because we're just not ready.

I'm with ya entirely on the full EV's, but maybe not so much on the hybrids based on the stats in the last link I posted. They come with far more glitches than the gas-powered vehicles.
Not that I'd ever purchase either, anyway. Wouldn't work for the terrain where I live.

His doesn't need to be plugged in so no problems or glitches there. He just uses it for stop/start city driving and for that it's great.

Oh, I wasn't talking about glitches with charging, just glitches, in general. But then, the article didn't specify what the mechanical problems were. Might not even be mechanical.Red Lily wrote:His doesn't need to be plugged in so no problems or glitches there. He just uses it for stop/start city driving and for that it's great.
Ya know, the article is counting according to problems per 100 vehicles. That doesn't make much sense to me. Over what length of time? And what type of problems? Mechanical? And are they substantial, or minor? Or do the probs lie in weather stripping? Or things such as tire replacement?
In short, the article was much too vague.
