The movie embellished to fill in holes . The Shepard was a young kid according to Lutrell and Murf would never hurt a kid . It probably was their downfall but Mike would never have hurt him .

you're correct but because he put himself out in the open and took the bullets they gave him the medal . The military phone got damaged and he went into a clearing during the firefight to make a personal call to his commander which meant instant death . He knew it , he was the boss and his guys were in trouble - he did what was needed

I agree. If it was in this woke climate though they'd probably be charged with war crimes if they did.

If the goat herders were armed than he would have probably done what was needed but they weren't and one was a kid . We had a special needs kid that lived next door ( A harmless kid with Downs syndrome ) there were a group of kids that felt heroic one day in the elementary school hallway that that started with the kid . That was a mistake because Mike was there also and Mike did what he had to do to protect him. The school called his parents down to the office to reprimand him with a warning to not take things into his own hands - Maureen and Dan got up and told the administration that they were proud of Mike and hoped he would do it again when needed . They were right and the school knew it . Mike was an exceptional kid and if anyone needed any kind of help , he was there to do it but he would never instigate . Other kids ,including mine , picked up on that .
Every town , every family, has a Mike Murphy ... Ours is now a great memory .

But these are strange times. Hard for an older person...the only parallel I can think of, was the meltdown of Germany under the National Socialists. Germany, remember, was the economic and scientific engine of Europe. Paris was more urbane; Austria was where the artists and creative types went to; but if you wanted to make something, bank money, or study hard science, you went to Berlin, or other major German cities.

My father was a German, born in the States but returned to Germany, age five. He lived through the meltdown of the civil society there and ended up basically a political refugee in Cleveland - age 13.

He was young. Now this is repeating, only here, and I am old. Everything we honored, is being smeared. Everything sick, deviant, barbarous or animalistic, is being celebrated - and ground in our faces.

AND, we have an obviously-diminished alleged-President, trying to launch a nuclear war. NEVER has anyone so STUPID been in that office! Even Warren Harding and Ulysses Grant were sharper than that!
