My first Amtrak trip was in 1989. Long story how that came about...but I took the train from Grand Junction, Colorado, to Chicago, and then to Cleveland.

First morning on the train, in the middle of Nebraska...I was sharing a breakfast table with an older woman from Seattle. The topic of California came up. She mentioned that things were getting so out of hand in Lost Angels and San fran Freako, that huge numbers were selling their homes and moving into the coastal towns in Washington State - changing the nature of the area.

Remember, Microsoft was still relatively small, and with one product - and computers were still basically business tools, not home portals. There was no Silicon Coast, then. Boeing was the big employer, and it didn't hire pierced-brain freaks.

But from then, to now...33 years...Seattle went from a pleasant, somewhat-wet city, to one absolutely DEMENTED.

The people make the city. Californians are not fit to live with civilized people; and that goes 10x for the autistic dweebs who work for software corporations.
