Those black guys might be the police. That's about the same response you'd get.

I was there about 95. I have no desire to go back. Paris was paris but it didn't look like it does today. I enjoyed the smaller towns and the countryside way more. They don't hate americans as much as the city dwellers are. naturally.

We drove from Nancy on the German border across France to Paris then we drove south through Lyon to Nice on the Riviera.Calypso Jones wrote:I was there about 95. I have no desire to go back. The people in the small towns treated us great. We stayed in a vintage hotel on the Mediterranean in Nice and it had a family-style dining room where there was no menu, you just ate what was served. In the morning the owner asked us what we wanted .........and everyone there had to eat what we chose. Also, little Fifi, the owner's poodle, made its rounds to the tables and begged for food. And another also......we sat at the same table each meal and our (cloth) napkins remained the same all day. We stayed there several days and went on day trips to old cities with drawbridges in the Alps and to Monte Carlo. Nice was much better than Paris imo.
