Re: Dagwood sandwich
Well, this is the part where I show my age.
Dagwood Bumstead was Blondie's husband. In the comic, Dagwood would build these monster sandwiches, and compress them to eat them. In the TV show, they always had something come between him, and his sandwich. The sandwiches were the size of his head.
Back at that time, I ate those kind of sandwiches. I'd use large loaves of Pumpernickel, or rye and proceed to put EVERYTHING on it. Mustard, mayo, Horse radish, garlic spread, roast beef, Chicken breast, Turkey, Pastrami, Swiss cheese, Cheddar Cheese, Pepper Jack, Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, Bacon, Avocado mash, Greek olives, Bean sprouts, Ortega Chiles, and fresh herbs.
Awful to try to eat, but gloriously tasty. Anyway, ANY overstuffed sandwich qualifies as a "Dagwood".

Yeah, I'd heard of it.
Blondie (with Dagwood Bumstead) was in the funnies when I was a kid. It wasn't for kids; and the Blondie strip was created in 1930...it was old even then. But it was background cultural reference.
My brother used to make such sandwiches for himself. Just pile on the crap. In high school he was a weightlifter...didn't bulk up like the freaks in competition; but he did have muscles and metabolism.
FWIW, Denny's used to have a Dagwood Breakfast Sandwich. Discontinued it when the health Nazis, who want us all living on tofu...they condemned it because it was over a thousand calories.
So? Plenty of people can eat like that. I used to be able to...I was overweight but never like the People of Walmart...

I cure some of my bacon. My injection is apple juice with some salt. Honey can be added to make a sweeter cure.Sprintcyclist wrote:vege57 wrote:jirqoadai wrote:you should cook the bacon first. itll make you sick ifnya dont

Nah, I've been eating bacon wholesale since Eisenhower was POTUS. Never had an issue. My favorite sandwich is a BLT. I use 6-8 slices of bacon, Butterhead lettuce, and a fresh ripe Heirloom Purple, like a Cherokee. Salt and pepper, and couple leaves of Basil.
A Cup of Cream of Tomato Soup, and I am set.
I also eat the pork belly BBQ'd. Awesome.
