Crime rates have increased across the country thanks to the “Defund the Police” movement, especially in big cities like Detroit, Michigan where one woman decided to take matters into her own hands on Wednesday after police failed to recover her stolen car…four times.

Business-owner Bianca Chambers was able to track her stolen 2016 white Mercedes-Benz 300C online for two days while the perpetrator was allegedly driving it around town. Then on Wednesday, she made her move as the man parked the vehicle while he went to get his hair done, according to Fox 2 Detroit.

Chambers immediately went to the salon where her car was located, 7 Days West, and recorded a Facebook Live video as she asked the man if the car outside was his new Benz. When the man denied it, Chambers sprung into action while still recording.

The woman wrestled the thief to the ground while bystanders helped perform a citizen’s arrests and dragged the man out of the salon by his dreadlocks.

“I slashed all the tires and I thought that he was gonna take off and I didn’t know how long it was going to take for the police to pull up. And I refused to let him pull off again,” Chambers said to Fox 2 News.

After successfully dragging the man out of the barbershop, Chambers posted a second video to Facebook announcing that she and customers from the salon had just made a citizen’s arrest.

When police arrived, however, they said the incident did not qualify as a citizen’s arrest but was instead considered a felony assault. Chambers and the customers who assisted in restraining the carjacker were not arrested because the man refused to press charges.

“We’ve got a victim who allegedly stole this car who was assaulted, but he didn’t want to press charges, so (Chambers) wasn’t arrested, but that wasn’t a citizen’s arrest; it was a felonious assault. She even admits on the video that she assaulted the man,” Detroit police 2nd Deputy Chief Rudy Harper said, according to The Detroit News.

The car was initially allegedly stolen on Monday from a parking lot outside of a Marshall’s at Eight Mile and Woodward. Chambers spotted the thief driving her car around 7:30 p.m. EST that same night, about four miles from where it was initially stolen.

“He was flying through red lights. This guy’s got some (audacity), driving the car around right in the same neighborhood where he stole it,” Chambers told The Detroit News.

After spotting the car, Chambers followed it and called 911, who advised her shortly thereafter to stop the chase because it was too dangerous.

Later that same night, the woman reportedly spotted her car outside a hookah lounge near the salon she owns, Taste of Honey Boutique.

“That scared me. I mean, I don’t even know this man, and he’s parked right near my business,” Chambers told The Detroit News.

Police were unable to respond to the sighting that night reportedly due to a kidnapping that required a large amount of local resources and response. In fact, Chambers had called the police on four separate occasions as she watched her car being driven to different locations, but each time the police reached the location, the car was gone.

As for how she was able to keep such close tabs on her car, “When my car was stolen, I put it on Facebook, and I kept getting tips that it was here or there. I was at work and someone said it was at the (7 Days West) and that (suspect) was inside to get his hair twisted,” she said.

Michigan State law allows citizens’ arrests but it does not allow for punching the perp, Harper reiterated.

“Well, I guess I would’ve just taken the assault charge, then. I mean, this guy is cruising around in my car. Now, he’s getting his hair done, about to pick whoever up and go joyriding. That’s just wrong,” Chambers said when told of the possible charges.

Harper also reported that Chambers did not have proper vehicle insurance, but he let her off the hook.

While Chambers’ actions may not have been perfect in the eyes of law, many on Twitter commended her take-action attitude:

Okay...I think it's great the way this woman got her car back. BUT...BUT...can you imagine the response by much of the public, at least the blacks, had this been a WHITE woman taking the exact same action?

I guess we'll have to get used to doing it ourselves, since the police are always too busy or, don't think it's a big deal that a stupid thug steals a car from someone who actually WORKED for it.

Glad she finally got her car back, but I hope she wasn't in favor of defunding the police.  And kinda dumb to slash all 4 of her own tires - especially with inadequate insurance.

And it wasn't "brand new"; it was a 2016 model.

"7 Days West."  Strange name for a hair salon, but to each his own.  (Or is that in reference to something I'm unfamiliar with?)
