Republican governor signs law expanding mail-in voting Breaks ranks from GOP leaders in other states that have restricted the measure
Vermont Republican Gov. Phil Scott signed a bill Monday requiring all registered voters in the state to receive mail-in ballots, breaking from GOP leaders in other states that have restricted the measure.
The bill, S.15, sailed through Vermont’s legislature, and made permanent expansions that were first adopted to accommodate voting amid the coronavirus pandemic, Vermont Digger reported. It also allows voters to correct a ballot that poll workers deemed ineligible if it was filled out or mailed incorrectly.

“I believe making sure voting is easy and accessible, and increasing voter participation is important,” Scott said in a statement Monday. He also asked the legislature to expand the bill’s provisions to primary and local elections and school budget votes in order to facilitate higher voter turnout.
In the 2020 presidential election, over 73% of the state’s registered voters casted a ballot, and of those over three-quarters did so by mail, according to statistics from the Vermont secretary of state’s office. The state ranked ninth among overall turnout.
A poll conducted by Lincoln Park Strategies found the measure to be overwhelmingly popular in the state, with 68% of voters favoring the expansions and just 29% opposing them. Nearly 80% of voters supported allowing voters to “cure” ballots with small errors.
Though Scott is a Republican, he is a moderate from an overwhelmingly-Democratic state, and told reporters that he voted for President Joe Biden, marking the first time he voted against his own party.
The bill is unlike those in other Republican-controlled states like Florida, Georgia and Texas that limit mail-in voting and alter other forms of voting within them. While Republicans have argued that the bills are necessary to protect against possible voter fraud, Democrats have countered that they will make it harder for people to vote — especially voters in urban areas and voters of color — and that voter fraud is incredibly rare.
The only other Republican-dominated state to adopt voting expansions since the election is Kentucky, where Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear signed a bipartisan bill establishing three days of early voting, multiple voting centers and an online portal where voters can register and request ballots.

Re: Republican governor signs law expanding mail-in voting Breaks ranks from GOP leaders in other states that have restricted the measure
Scott is obviously an individual who doesn't know what is important:
And what's not to love about this bit of slop that's delivered up ad nauseum, as if on cue:
1. Voter fraud is NOT incredibly rare. Kick that notion to the curb.
2. Just WHAT, pray tell, does getting to a polling booth have to do with skin color? Does the wind push harder against black skin? Do yellow people shrink in the rain? Does the sun burn red people more than others?
What the blazes is wrong with people who can't think beyond 2nd Grade mentality? And what the blazes is wrong with those in a position to counter these fools with just those questions, but don't?
3. Riddle me this: WHY is it important to make voting easy? Tell me. I'd really like to know.
We don't need more voters; we need more informed voters. But then, Gov. Scott would be out of a job, wouldn't he.“I believe making sure voting is easy and accessible, and increasing voter participation is important,” Scott said in a statement Monday. He also asked the legislature to expand the bill’s provisions to primary and local elections and school budget votes in order to facilitate higher voter turnout.

Re #3: I have a neighbor that likes to CONSTANTLY remind people he's a vet (like there aren't any other vets in the country), he's always such an ass, abusive to his wife, and even his own siblings and children will have nothing to do with him. Matter of fact...he's on his 3rd wife, I suspect the first 2 left when they decided they weren't going to take his abuse any longer. I worked the GOP office before the election, and constantly encouraged people NOT to use mail-in ballots to vote, GO IN PERSON! I was also a poll worker, so I saw first hand how busy are station WAS NOT. When I got home that day, John was out front, and said they voted by mail because he didn't want to stand in line for hours. I told him he was such a liar, ALL of our stations in the area had plenty of volunteers for poll workers and watchers, and the most at ours was 5 minutes. It kept moving fast all day, there was NO waiting......EVER! And then I couldn't resist... "So, mr tough vet couldn't wait in line for FIVE minutes? REALLY?!?"
I'm in the process of trying to get his wife help to move and divorce him, or at least get away, if not divorce. She's a devout Catholic, so I suspect she probably won't divorce him. She's spent the night a few times in my apartment to get a break now and then, but I worry that one day, it may be too late....

I'm impressed and appreciative of your dedication to be part of the solution. Amazing how many "vets" insist upon "respect." The very type who least likely deserve it.
